Albert is asking for around 8 mil/year, but doesnt seem to have any takers. I think its reasonable to beleive we could have him fro around 7.5/year. Below is a link to last years rookies and their salareis/contract amounts. I think we'd be paying an OT at #7 around 4mil/year.
I guess this lends itself to two questions

#1 - is Branden Albert worth 3.5 nil more per year than Lane Johnson (if he's there)?
#2 - Does using our 2nd rd pick (possibly one picked up in a trade down) and therfore allowing us to keep our #1 and use it on Warmack or a pass rusher (jordan/Ansah/J.Jones) help justify the extra 3+ mil we'd be paying to Albert?

Branden Albert isn't getting $8M from anyone because he's playing under the Franchise tag, and no one wants to negotiate with him for the Chiefs.

$8M for Albert would be a $1.5M pay cut from what he's scheduled to make in 2013 alone under the Franchise designation. He'll get more than $9M per year on an extension, with a guarantee that's almost triple that.

The signing bonus for the #7 overall pick will be about $8M. The TOTAL VALUE of the contract will be about $14M, according to this: http://overthecap.com/nfl-rookie-salary-cap.php

First-year cap charge would be under $3M. Good golly, rookies got screwed under the new pay scale.

Vets and Owners were pissed about that insane rookie cheddar, it really showed in the negotiations.

Mid-level vets may have been pissed about the old rookie system, but I guarantee you that high-level vets weren't. Matt Ryan's rookie deal was worth more money than Aaron Rodgers' extension. That high price drives the Franchise number, and becomes the starting point for the next class of top free agents' contracts.

Ask Karlos Dansby and Kerry Rhodes how the new CBA is working out for them. I'd tell you to ask Paris Lenon and Dwight Freeney, but I think that their cell phone service has been suspended.

That's why I still roll with Cricket, the popo is probably listening in all the time but I just don't do contracts.

While Brandon Albert isnt worth the 8 million he wants, LT isnt a position you should be cheap at.

Albert is much better than Lane Johnson, no question.

Even overpaying him, id love that move because:

- we could go BPA in the draft (and not reach on Lane Johnson like im expecting to happen)

- That BPA could be Jarvis Jones or Warmack. 2 Pro Bowl caliber players (LJ is not)

- In the 2nd we could then take Larry Warford and our line would look like this:

Albert, Warford, Sendlein, Brown, Massie

Heck, we could go get Brian Schwenke in the 3rd and this would be our line:

Albert, Warford, Schwenke, Brown, Massie

In the 2nd we wouldn't be taking anyone because we would be trading that pick to KC.

Hmm. Maybe Warford makes it to the 3rd round? Might be wishful thinking.

Or how bout this:

All signs say KC is taking Joeckle. Brandon Albert has said he flat refuses to move to RT. So at the end of the day, KC will have an expensive backup LT if they hold onto him.

Gun to the head, I think KC parts with Albert for a 3rd, because they cant risk getting stuck with both BA and Luke.

I like the idea of Albert but youve always got to be weary of why a team is actively trying to part with a franchise LT? Especially Andy Reid..creEpy

That's normally with a QB though. Albert is forcing their hand by refusing to move to RT and the Chiefs are dead set on drafting a LT. If I were KC, I'd just draft Joeckel and play him at RT this year and then let Albert move on next year but they want that second rounder back that they gave up for Smith and probably want to get something for Albert before he leaves.
