IMO, Gortat would have considerably more trade value around the league than Dudley or Frye.

I think that's true, at least for Frye, whose game is perceived to be a better fit in Phoenix than it would be anywhere else. We know that lots of teams were asking about Dudley at the last trade deadline.

I think Gortat could fetch a ransom in a Larry Nance type trade if the Suns wanted to ever go that route.

He could bring something of value, but nothing anywhere near what the Suns got for Nance. He's basically the same player he was in Orlando; he's just getting more opportunities now.

I am not locked into it. It is what big men are suppose to do. It's not my concept.

Re-read those three sentences, and laugh...they're pretty funny in succession. There are plenty examples of big men who play smaller, and smaller players that play big, to say that a player is only successful at certain heights based on their skill set is ridiculous.

Furthermore, while nobody will every confuse Channing with Ben Wallace, he's not a total disaster at defense/rebounding.

Also, remember the Suns said he is starting PF material.

This may come as a surprise, but players, coaches, teams, organizations, hell people everywhere sometimes say things that may not be true...it's called spin. The Suns lost their franchise playe
r at the position and tried to replace him with Channing...not his fault.

The Suns said he will have to be an inside presence and rebound. They tried to force feed him playing inside and it worked for about 2 weeks and then evaporated. So, it is the Suns expectations too that he do more besides shoot the 3. It's the Suns who played him down low at Center a ton last season.

Exactly. Not Channing's fault. Channing is a decent weapon if used correctly. The current Suns organization is completely clueless and is trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. Channing is an excellent foil to Amare as a big man because he opens up the floor for him, and draws another big out who has to respect his ability to hit the 3. Is he going to drive and dunk and be a demon on d? Of course not, but anyone who expected that is a fool.

The only value Frye carries is if this team still plans on outscoring everyone without much defense or inside presence.

Uh, in case you hadn't noticed, that's been the plan ever since the team has been in existence.

but Frye doesn't get 30 million plus contract on a contending team let along get off the bench 1st. That is not a solution to me. That is a 30 million stop gap until the team rebuilds.

I just don't get why you're so hung up on his contract... Yes, it's a 30 million dollar deal, but it averages out around 6 million per year, which is middle of the road for a big man.

In case you didn't notice, we took on 3 other contracts that were worse last offseason between Turk, Warrick and Childress. Would I have given Channing 30? Probably not, but I would have been fine with $25, so considering all the other horrendous moves, Channing's contract is a mere blip on the screen.

If you mean that Gortat had the potential, but not the opportunity, while he backed up the best Center in the NBA, of course that's true.

But he is hardly the same player he was in Orlando. That is like saying that Steve Nash was the same player when he returned to the Suns (after having teamed up with Nowitski) as he was while buried behind Kidd and KJ at the beginning of his Suns career.

1. Don't skimp on management hiring, hire the best or you'll pay for it in the end
2. Keep good management when you have it
3. Let basketball people make basketball decisions and financial people make financial decisions. Financial people should be tasked with finding a way to get the basketball people what they want
4. Honor the players, treat them with respect, even when parting ways, even when they disrespect you
5. Give your word only after careful deliberation, and always keep it
6. Shoot straight with everyone
7. Admit when you are wrong and learn from it
8. Don't EVER blame the fans, they are your customers
9. Remember that you cannot make money without winning, and you can win without making money, but winning AND making money is what allows you to do both consistently

Almost of biblical proportions. However, you need at least one more. :D

Maybe not a total but he definitely has been very bad often enough.

Not a surprise and it's not about blame. It's simply a fact that Frye and his 3 point shot is sure pretty when it's fallen but like everything else on this team, it's a lot of window dressing without much substance.

Decent weapon? I am not sure calling a one dimensional big man who can't even play inside decent. There is one thing this guy does and let's not forget that since he has been here he has disappeared for long stretches even with the 3. When he isn't hitting that he is pointless on the floor. Look no further then the numerous times he has been benched when not hitting the 3. When his shot isn't falling Gentry has a tendency to let him ride the pine. That happened alot last season.

Uh...did you notice I said that? ;)

If the Suns were intent on getting a middle of the road player and spending 30 million plus, that money was better spent elsewhere IMO.

Everyone noticed and I agree that compared to all the other crap this FO has put the fans through that his contract is a blip. However, you get enough blips on the radar everybody can see what is coming. I think many of us had been calling this train wreck for some time now.

10. Don't make decisions based upon fan opinion, they rarely see what is actually going on in the game. Usually they are just parrotting what their friends say or some sports guru who is only looking at stats. Have the best basketball minds you can find watch actual games and give you their opinion. Don't second guess them.
