Exactly, and what a job they did. I held my breath during the 9th with Reed, but he finally came through.
Was his string of disappointing performances because of so few save opportunities to get in the groove? A lot of us have hoped that he would be replaced.
He has a 4.21 career ERA, so assuming he only pitches one inning per appearance, pretty much a run every other game, and a lot of blown saves when trying to preserve one run leads. The only decent year of his career was a 3.78 ERA, 40 saves but a whopping 8 blown saves.
He does not have the stuff to be a lock down closer. Control issues and he does not have an out pitch. He is another example of Towers inability to see the forest through the trees. Pursued this guy because he "needed" a close and Reed had of a decent amount of total saves, but ignored the frightening ERA, WHIP and blown save numbers.
