I know this is highly unlikely, so perhaps this is just smoke and mirrors, however this is only intended for discussion.

Suppose tommorrow's "free agent announcement" is that the Suns are going to match Atlanta's offer and going to go back on the deal with Atlanta.. I know a lot of folks are disgusted with Johnson's desire to go to Atlanta, but would you be happy about the news and be willing to accept him as he is, a Phoenix Sun?

Listen, RFAs sign in different places all the time and get matched. It doesn't matter in 99% of the cases.

Look at Michael Redd. The Bucks didn't want to pay him 3 million dollars 4 years ago. The Mavs did, and Redd wanted to go to Dallas. Instead Mil. matches at the last second and Redd comes back and works his ass off.

Then he resigns with them when he is a UFA (for 20 million reasons).

If we match Joe, it would be wrong of fans to hold it against him.

Great analogy.. Another I'll use is Elton Brand, who like Johnson, told the Clippers not to match his contract when Miami signed him to the offer sheet a few years back. The Clips ignored the request, Brand was re-signed and since then, he's continued to bust his ass and remains the Clippers best (or at least the most consistent) player.

I agree 110 percent. Johnson gave the Suns 3 good years, where he gradually improved in each. He never caused any problems off the court and for the most part (that we know of) was a model teammate when dealing to coaches, teammates and the media alike.

Am I disappointed by the fact that he states he'd rather play in Atlanta, who is coming off a 13 win season and hasn't been a competitive team (let alone a playoff team) this decade? Absolutely, however in the end, business is business and if by some fluke of the law this contracted trade with Atlanta gets wrecked and he re-signs, I'd be as happy to welcome him back as I would be had he simply re-upped with the Suns to start with.

I have no hope the Suns are trying to get JJ back. I hope they are simply sweetening the deal such as reducing the level of protection on the 1st round picks.

Yes, I'd welcome JJ back. I am PHOENIX SUNS fan, first and foremost, so Ill try to support any player the Suns have (unless they ever had a huge prick like AI).

Though, I must say, I have basically convinced myself the Suns can live w/ out JJ and that being monetarialy flexible w/ out him is a good idea. I guess I could go either way, I just want a god damned championship.
