At this point I'd just assume taking the six seed and take care of the injured SAS who we all of a sudden match up well with and then pray the Mavs get by or the Hornets are too green to win another series while the Lakers and Jazz beat each other up. I want to avoid the Lakers, Jazz, and Hornets for as long as possible and the #6 seed appears the best way to do that.

they haven't played since the trade.... and the Nuggets have the talent and depth to knock the lakers out....

and though no laker fan will admit it, if Camby can shut Gasol down... and then Kobe will have to try and out-score the nuggets by homself (and you laker fans know damn well that there will be at least one game, win or lose, that kobe says screw it, I am going to take 30 shots and win the game by myself....

That won't worl against a team like the Nuggets, because they may not play a lot of defense, but they can outscore anyone....

I think if the lakers take your approach, they will be out before MAy....

a Lakers-Nuggets series will be no contest, plain and simple. Even mediocre Laker teams the last couple years who were worse than the Nuggets owned them. Now that they're an offensive juggernaut (which is what the Lakers are), they'll just run the Nuggets out of the building or wait for them to implode, which they will.

I think the Nuggets can sweep the Lakers since they have a spy sitting on the end of LA's bench.

That means a lot considering the Lakers are MUCH better as a team since the trade and were whipping the Nugs before that. The Lakers have more talent and better depth and balance. They're much superior defensively and are almost as efficient offensively not to mention they have the superior coaching and homecourt advantage. The only way the Lakers lose is if Kobe or Gasol breaks their leg and I'd still probably give it to the Lakers if the latter occurred.

Here's an interesting little twist:

Providing the Hornets beat the Clippers tomorrow, and Denver beats Memphis, then a Laker loss would guarantee that the Lakers would play Denver in the first round, and New Orleans would play Dallas, regardless of seeding.

In that sitiuation, a Hornets win would give them #1 seed and simultaneously drop Dallas to #8, puttinng the Lakers at #2 and Denver at #7. Likewise, a Hornets loss would keep them at #2 and Dallas at #7, while keeping the Lakers at #1 and Denver at #8.

Yea I'm sure the Lakers are gonna take the Nuggets lightly.lol There's no easy matchup but the Nuggets are by far the most favorable. Much rather play them than Dallas. The Lakers have played the Nuggets since the trade (Gasol was injured), they beat them convincingly without Gasol and Bynum. Nuggets matchup horribly against the Lakers. Who's going to guard Kobe? Anthony Johnson? I like Phil's chances against a George Karl coached team in the playoffs.

that may very well be...

but at the very least i disagree with everyone's opinion that the Lakers will roll the nuggets....

I think Gasol is a much better matchup for Camby then Bynam was....

in my mind the last thing the lakers would want to do to the nuggets is try and run them out of the building. That's like dallas trying to run golden state out of the building. they need to slow it down to a more moderate pace and make sure kobe exploits the fact that allen iverson is likely to be the starting 2-guard for the nuggets.

not to mention that after Bynum went down and before the trade happened, they played the Nuggets and STILL kicked their ass, without Bynum or Gasol. That being said, I could see the Nuggets stealing Game 1 from a tight Laker squad and then losing the next four.

why? The Lakers offense is better than Denver's and much more clutch down the stretch.

i hope n.o. beats dallas and denver beats memphis. Then you get dallas/l.a. and dallas has no pressure.

That series is TROUBLE for the lakers.

Yes, I am not happy that Dallas could be on the first round schedule for the Lakers.

Mind you, I don't fear the Mavs...but they sure could take us to a heartpounding series in 6 or 7 games. That is NOT what we need in a first round matchup.

just do it

I just realized it doesn't matter, utah is going in the tank wed. If they win they get s.a. in a 3/6, lose and they get a cakewalk with houston in a 4/5.

maybe the Sterns want to lose also? Maybe they want to play the Jazz instead of the Suns?

Dude, if the Nuggets were any good they wouldn't have been struggling to land the 8th seed.

They are not a very good team at all. Sure, they have some good players, but most of them are one-dimensional.

They'll be lucky to win two games.

that ain't happening.

Man, I wish I had your confidence.

This, to me, is the biggest test of the season. Last week Kobe challenged the team to make a statement game, and they damn sure did. They are geared up for the playoffs. This game will tell me if they are going to mentally be in the playoffs or prone to take games off or quarters off.

If we throttle the Kings, I'm going to be very confident going into the playoffs. If we struggle with them, it is going to be worrisome to me.

A) How do you know that Coby isn't spying FOR the lakers? Dad's scarlip sinks ships.

B) Coby won't be on any Laker playoff roster, barring apocalypse healthwise.

They won 50 games this year!

ITs not like they are in the east, 10 games under .500 and barely making the playoffs...

They are the best #8 seed in the history of the NBA....

We will see what happends, but I have learned discounting AI, on the most talented team he has ever been on is a mistake...

The lakers will probably win the series.. but won't do it in 4 or 5....
