I didn’t see it, but the elevator concept is pretty funny. The vegan food joke is pretty old, though.
About a dozen or so vegans that I know spout off how the lifestyle is soo wonderful and almost shame those who don't go vegan. And they like to tell everyone about it, everyday, all day long. So I think the joke is pointed to those annoying morons.

I'm sure I have other friends who are vegan but don't throw it in your face, so I don't know that they are. I categorize you as one of the latter, one of the "Good Vegans." Lol.

Thanks!

I think I may have already shared this, but this is a quality joke:

It doesn’t really help to try to convince someone that bad food tastes good. It’s better to be honest. But I do think things are much better now than the old beet loaf and plain tofu days. :)

She thinks this decades-old joke is hilarious.

My reaction, basically.

Carls Jr sells the Beyond Meat burger as part of their burger line up, which is pretty cool. I recently tried it and enjoyed it a lot. I had already had the Beyond Meat burger previously so I was curious how it would taste from a fast food company.

It’s nice that Frys now sells it so it’s easier to get.

Been meaning to try Carl’s Jr. It’s cool that they’re even advertising it on tv.

Didn’t know Fry’s carried it. Thanks for the tip!

I probably should mention it was a Frys marketplace, not sure if the normal Frys has it.

Found them at a regular Fry’s today. They also had new Daiya American slices, so I had some nice cheeseburgers today. Thanks for the tip!

Interesting. Tyson is apparently "...the world's second largest processor and marketer of chicken, beef, and pork..." Is Tyson a company that a vegan like yourself will support now that they're moving into the animal free market? I'm not trying to judge or anything, but I could see a dilemma depending on your point of view.

I will definitely support them by buying and promoting the cruelty-free products. I won’t excuse their existing cruelty, though.

It is an interesting debate. I know some people who stop buying certain products when a vegan company is purchased by a larger, non-vegan company, but I believe in sending signals with my purchasing power.

I’m hoping what ultimately happens is that plant-based and/or clean meat replaces the entire current system. Whoever wins that market doesn’t particularly concern me, as long as we get there. So I’m wishing Tyson the best.

That makes perfect sense to me. Thanks for your honesty.

I’m really excited about this. If the big companies are investing, it really means there’s something there. If this industry gets fixed, it will go a long way to solving a lot of our big global problems.

I feel the same way. Although I'm not vegan, I embrace the options being made available and I'd love to make the transition to a cruelty-free steak in my lifetime.

I'm neither of those things, but people do tend to freak out about vegans. I don't get the psychology behind it, but it's pretty bizarre. Vegans have no impact on people like Piers Morgan, so I'm not really sure why he's so upset. I personally choose to be vegan so that no animals are harmed, but I like that it helps the environment and keeps me healthier. I don't try to force it on anyone, but am happy to have an open conversation about it (which is why I originally started this thread, actually). The other weird thing is the "all vegans are crazy/extreme" line, which doesn't make any sense because nobody knows who all the vegans are just by looking at them.

I did see some great responses to what he said, though.

That pizza looks pretty good. For some reason, a lot of restaurants choose England to introduce vegan options. Hopefully they'll eventually offer them here.

Also, I just learned that Carl's Junior now has the vegan Beyond Burger at all of its stores. I buy these at Safeway all the time, but it's awesome that a big burger chain now carries it and promotes it. Beyond Burgers on me if anyone wants to meet up sometime. :) Or Impossible Burgers at Top Golf! Those are my favorite and I'm not quire sure how they ended up at Top Golf, but I'll go there for the burgers.

Oh, also, also...saw this from The Economist.

xc_hide_links_from_guests_guests_error_hide_media

Update from The Economist.

Greggs, a cheap but cheerful purveyor of sandwiches and bakery food in Britain, reported an “exceptionally strong start” to 2019, which it attributed to the roll out of its vegan sausage roll. Derided by some (Piers Morgan pilloried Greggs for being “pc-ravaged clowns”) the company said the publicity had boosted sales of its other “iconic sausage rolls” and food. Some predict this will be the year of the vegan.

I tried a Beyond burger at Carl's Jr today. I thought it was a perfectly acceptable meat substitute. The other 3 in my family that tried a bite said it had a "funny taste" that they couldn't really articulate.

I’m glad you liked it. :)

One thing that’s kind of funny about this is that Beyond Burgers and Impossible Burgers are on versions 2.0. They talk about them like they’re software releases. Lol.

fwiw, I have not eaten meat or bread in a month... fish, shrimp, rice, veggies, eggs, cheese, yogurt, granola, pasta, beans/chili, corn tortillas, ice cream. My dairy intake is not going away any time soon, however.

I'd like to try one of these. I love the Whopper even though I haven't had one in years.
