he's so elusive, very agile, and extremely athetic, and at the same time very strong.

Uhh..... No!

Lets not head back to the Fred Wakefield days of moving players from defense to offense. We have WRs and RBs that are supposed to be doing those jobs.

Agreed. Although I wouldnt mind him returning punts instead of Breaston.

Let's take a guy who seems to be too dumb to play defense and put him on offense!

No. If he can't cut it as a DB, he can't cut it. But he's at worst a servicable FS. He's going to have a very long NFL career playing in the defensive backfield.

I like Rolle and I get excited every time he gets his hands on the ball but lets keep in mind that when he's returning interceptions he has 5 offensive linemen, a quarterback and some runningbacks and receivers trying to tackle him. Also, players are spread out all over the field at that point so it's not like trying to run against 7 or 8 in the box.

I'm not sure you want your starting FS to be playing what essentially would be iron man football. Beyond the obvious injury factor, when would he rest? Moreover, there is zero depth behind him unless you want to see more Aaron Francisco.

Yes, Rolle needs to return punts...

Let's not forget that Rolle tried returning punts during camp last year. If memory serves, he attempted one punt return in the preseason (against the Saints?) and he sprained his ankle and was out for several weeks.

They've explored that option and for whatever reason he ended up taking snaps at receiver instead of returning punts.

After watching the interception return for a touchdown in the superbowl, I'd have to agree. Not something I had thought about before you mentioned he is making those runs against guys who arent' exactly good tacklers.

The only problem with having a defensive starter return punts is that he has been on the field the whole time and won't be at full energy for the punt many times. If he gets benched then he would probably become the PR but I don't see it happening while he is still starting unless there are injuries.
