I've been proven wrong about Calvin Johnson's speed. He will now probably go in the top three. Unlike so many tall WRs, Johnson seems to have a good work ethic and never complained about having the worst QB in the whole NCAA throwing to him.

This is very good for the Cards sitting at #5.

I agree, if Thomas is no longer around, the Cards will have a major bargaining chip with the ability to trade down a few spots and get a player like Landry. Acquiring a few extra picks in this draft to solidify both lines would be perfect, and we'd still get an excellent prospect at 7-10.

First off, please understand that I'm one who finds "big game speed" to be incredibly overrated. I've seen a few "speed demons" at WR that didn't amount to a hill of beans in the pros. I find it to be equally more overrated when it happens at the Combine. Anyone can run fast in their shorts and a t-shirt with noone defending them, how good are they gonna be with an additional 10-15 pounds worth of equipment and a 265 pound linebacker or a shutdown, hard hitting safety/cornerback in his face. There's a reason why James Jett never amounted to much in the NFL, while Anquan Boldin, who had one of the worst 40 times ever recorded for a WR at the Combine, has been a perennial Pro Bowler and one of the NFL's best WRs.

That being said, I've said all along Calvin Johnson is the real deal. I think he's going to make someone, whether it be Oakland, Tampa Bay, Cleveland (I still think there's a chance they pick a WR inspite of having Braylon Edwards, even though I think they go QB/HB first) a very happy team. This 40 time just solidified what we've known all along, that he's going to be one of the top players off the board.

I saw an interview with Peter King yesterday (pretty reliable source), and he said that if you were to ask all 32 GM's who their #1 guy on their draft board would be, at least 28 would say Calvin Johnson by a landslide.

I don't care if we have Boldin and Fitz. If Johnson by some miracle fell to us at #5, we take him and worry about filling needs later. He is an absolute freak.

It's kind of funny that Mike Mayock compared Johnson to a combination of Fitzgerald and Boldin. No knock on Larry and Quan, but they could both get a 10 yard lead in a 100 meter dash and Johnson would catch them. Our stars are great players, but not fast. Johnson will be dynamite and is tremendously fast. Johnson was asked who he thinks he compares with and he did not mention either Larry or Quan. He sees himself as a young Randy Moss minus the character baggage. Pretty good comparison.

Why? So they can spend top 5 money, eating up salary cap money that could be used to fill holes, and have 40-45 million dollars invested in a third reciever?

That kind of logic makes little sense to me. It's not like Fitz and Boldin are the Little Sisters of the Poor, and unless the Cardinals plan to permanently go to the three Wide Out set, picking Calvin Johnson would be a wasted pick.

I hear what you are saying but from what I have heard/read, Whiz will be using alot more 2WR sets.

If that is true, it's not going to happen.

If Denny was here or our base offense was 3WR, it could have happened easily.

This guy personifies the term "Total Package". I have a feeling someone is gonna pull a Ricky Williams-type deal to get him. I am sorry, but the man is David Boston-esque minus the poopy attitude and addiction problems that have destroyed him. Not to mention he seems to be a great guy and very team orientated player. I pray for him that he doesn't become a Raider. And I pray for the Cards that he doesn't end up in our division. IMO he is the best WR prospect I have ever seen. I mean that.

Oh and for the record, he will never in a TRILLION years fall to #5, but if he did Whiz would have to either get 5 licks (2-3 of them being 1sts) for the spot or take him and trade Fitz or Boldin right away.
