I don't buy that 'take the highest rated' OT available

We all know, that probably two of the top OTs will turn out to be starters and one will become a stud while the rest will be considered a bust for being drafted so high. I do not buy trading up and just take the remaining best OT according to media sages. I am sure the Cardinals as other teams have one or two they rate highly and would not select the others. I think it does come down to Wirfs and Wills. Becton's size is just as large as the perfect 'potential' guy which never pans out. I like Wirfs and one would think most teams do but you never know. Then there is always that guy which nobody is talking about which ends up being the dude later which slips under the radar. All I am saying is that years from now there are not going to be four OT studs which came out of the 2020 first

but I don’t think Simmons or Brown will make it to 8 and way on earth Okuda falls that far

Every team needs offensive lineman and sometimes they're more difficult to evaluate. Every college these days has 300-pound OL, but most can't play in the NFL, but some surprise a lot of people. Agreed, it's not an exact science.....but you still have to use the obvious tangibles like size, strength, and speed to make draft decisions.

I’d be shocked if Becton, Wirfs, Simmons and Okudah are gone by our pick. I’m not sure Wills is the type of athlete to pick that high (feel more comfortable picking him in a trade back like you mentioned).

I am sure I am way off but it just seems like OL is more about coaching and scheme than the player. I would rather draft a defensive player in the first round because they are much easier to evaluate from a scouting perspective than offensive line. that’s why it always amazes me that we drafted Hassan Reddick. He didn’t even dominate at temple and yet Keim thought he would be NFL ready.

If the cards take a first round WR, they should trade back and take Ruggs. The only thing missing in the WR room is a burner to take the top off the defense. And don’t say Isabella is that guy.

The top 4 OTs are legit top 10 picks in each and every draft class. Just happens to be a stacked OT class. Sometimes there aren't even 4 such talented OT prospects in 3 classes altogether! I don't think you could fault Keim for picking one of them at 8, and if we trade down and still nab one of the 4 OTs, Keim has to be considered a genius.

I would think it would be the director of college scouting and his staff. Wilson is in charge of scouting guys who are already in the NFL not college prospects.

The Director of College Scouting is Chris Culmer but he didn’t take over until after last years draft. Not sure who did the job before him, so maybe they did make a change based on previous draft results.

My list is as follows, Wirfs first because his athletic attributes are not far off to having great technique, the most ready Wills and Becton if you think his massive frame makes him such a freak that he can hold the RT position on that alone which depends on what the Cardinals think... draft for the trenches whether it's defense or offense, meaning Brown slips or you like one of those OTs

At number eight we face a dilemma. Do you take the second best OT or the best DT?

Do you take the second best OT or the second best DT or the best Wr?

we still have to see how this whole qb situation, both in the draft and the remaining free agents.

We assume Burrow and Tua will be drafted before 8 but there is no guarantee after that. Hebert and Love May be available but a team like the Raiders could move up to take an OT, DT, or Simmons. Which will upset the applecart.

A team like the Chargers could move down and still get Herbert or Love. Or they could settle on Winston, which I don’t think they will.

If this off season taught us anything it’s don’t even mess with mock drafts until free agency shakes out.

I feel better taking one of the OT's even if its the second one off the board than taking Derrick Brown. I know DVontel and I don't see eye to eye with OT rankings with him loving Wills and me high on Thomas but we agree on Wirfs. I think Wirfs, Thomas or Becton would be ideal as they can start at RT and swing over to LT should something happen to Humphries (injury or regression). Becton is actually growing on me after his stellar Combine (5.10 40 at 361 pounds). He just reminds me of Trent Brown with his size and mobility. Becton and Thomas are similar in that they started as freshman at RT (Thomas was actually a Freshman All American) and moved to LT their sophomore and junior years. That experience and versatility provides a lot of value at #8. Wirfs played some LT as well (2 games) this year so he is just as versatile. I don't buy us being set with Murray at RT and with a deep WR draft if Keim wanted another WR he could get one in Round 4.

Seemed like last draft was based soley on on PFF grades.
