Deep fried is just OK. Brine your turkey and smoke it. Only way to eat it.

I prefer the deep fried taste for Thanksgiving dinner. I prefer smoking flavor for the leftover sandwiches. Ergo, I am making two different types of turkeys.

Interesting. To me baked sweet potatoes are better than white potatoes.

A matter of taste I suppose, but this thread is for people who don't like turkey.

I love sweet potatoes, hate the traditional Thanksgiving yams dish. But, back to topic, my left testicle itches when the temperature drops quickly.

Thanksgiving should have been honored with tacos. Us white people invaded the wrong damn country.

there is no way to dress up that disgusting sustenance.... :mulli:

Perhaps you've never had the right sweet potato? <that's a real question mark, I'm not presuming to tell you what you've eaten in your life>

I think the traditional Thanksgiving dish is usually made with the darker (orangish) sweet potato which is often called a yam. It's not a yam but it's similar in taste and texture. The lighter colored sweet potato is great for roasting and is much closer to a white potato. It's mildly sweet and holds up to all kinds of cooking. It's been my experience that people who claim to dislike sweet potatoes usually change their opinion once they've tasted the lighter skinned variety (it's usually a pale yellow or almost white).

I don't eat any fowl period. Ham for me. Like Waldorf salad but whoever decided to put marshmallows in it should be horsewhipped.

AZ Steven please keep the heat turned up, especially in polite company.

Why don't you go ahead and slide that recipe this way..;)

OK Gee! Here is the recipe straight from my brother in-law:

- This is the basting juice: In a bowl, mix: orange juice, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, fresh finely chopped basil, oregano, parsely, garlic powder, onion powder, salt and pepper.

- Cut 2 lemons in half and place them inside the bird

- rub the bird with olive oil and cover it with foil

- after 1/2 hour of cooking on a higher temp, start basting every 15 mins and be carfeful not to over-cook. Even if the bird has a pop up I still prefer to use a backup thermometer.

I'm telling ya - it does not disappoint!! ;)

Some white people are smart enough to have a family tradition of eating tacos the the night before thanksgiving. :)
