Everyone is taking about how we need to make a serious run at Shaun Alexander this offseason, but I won't jump on this bandwagon. He is a tremendous talent that wants the spotlight he feels has been denied him in Seattle. The last place he'll want to be is the "armpit of the NFL".

From the Seattle Times website:

We were going to win anyway, we were on the freaking goal line, and I got stabbed in the back," Alexander said in the locker room afterward before being quieted by a Seahawks media-relations employee.

Too late, the words were out.

Later, as he walked out of the stadium, Alexander paused by the exit and said: "We didn't want to win that rushing title."

Asked if when he said "we" he meant Holmgren, he said, "Yes."

Asked again if he was sure he wanted to say this on a day the Seahawks won their way into a division championship, he again said, "Yes."

Then he added, "Please make sure I'm saying this in the nicest way possible."

"...stabbed in the back," Wait a minute! Your team is lucky to make the playoffs and you're pissed off that you didn't get the one yard plunge!!! I can remember two goal line fumbles you committed this season and I don't even follow your team. There was 4:30 left in the game- everyone would have expected you to get the ball back once. Heck, they very nearly went to overtime.

Sorry folks. I don't want another Prima Donna no matter how talented he is.

One outburts from one of the better players on and off the field doesn't make me want him any less. He has never had anything like this happen before and after an adrenalized game and emotion etc....things get said, every player has said something stupid at one point or another, if we didn't want anyone on this team that said something stupid...we wouldn't have a team..or an owner...or fans for that matter, me included

From what i've read in the past, that's really out of character for him.Plus, i would like it if our starting HB was pissed that he lost out on the rushing title by 1 yard and scored 20 TD's.

The point is that he has always said that playing is Seattle has been bad for him. We just never hear about it. He and Holmgren don't get along so one of them will go after this season. I've heard it myself and they repeated it this AM on ESPNRadio, that Alexander says that he (himself) would be better off somewhere else - i.e. a big market city.

I can understand him being pissed off about the rushing title and all...and can even understand him showing his frustration like that. My only problem with signing Alexander is that he's going to cost a lot of dough and the Cards can probably get someone equally as effective at a lower cost. This team has a lot of holes to fill and will need the cap space.

Haven't we said that since the days of Ottis Anderson? He is a proven talent
who would help this team tremendously regardless of the cost. That comment
may actually help us sign him. Bring him on!

also wouldn't it show to all the FAs out there that if we signed alexander that we are serious about winning. they might consider coming here, i think they might see the changes that are going here from mgt on down. not the same ol cards. mho

Well, if for what Alexander might cost, compared to getting, say, Lamont Jordan, a TE/CB/run stuffing DT/ and/or better OL than we already have, then I say I'd rather have more players to plug holes instead of one guy eating up $6-$7 million of cap space.

But that's just me.

Agreed. I would hate to see us throw stoopid $$$ at someone who will become a cancer in the locker room. There are "team players" out there that would be a better and less expensive fit.

He'll be Miami bound - not here.

I completely disagree with this philosophy, especially with Denny Green at the helm. He's had a history of getting these kind of players to produce (see moss, carter).

I bet Philly fans were pretty stoked about getting San Fran's "team cancer". Owens played out of his mind this year before he got hurt.

I'd love to have a guy upset because he didn't get the rushing title. It'd be a tremendous luxury compared to what we're used to.

Plus just getting him out of the NFC West will be a major victory for this franchise.

The irony is that the dude who won the running title (Curtis Martin) downplayed the accomplishment; stating instead that he was just happy the Jets were in the playoffs.

Just tells you a little bit about the comparative mindsets of the two RBs. I don't disagree that it was a dumb thing said in the heat of the moment or that Alexander speaks best with his legs.

But the "new Cardinals" are all about guys making the personal commitment to doing whatever it takes to win. Based on Shaun's comments, I don't think he'd be a good fit for the team - particularly for the money he supposedly wants.

said this morning, something about not throwing big bucks at some one else's player, because you really don't know what you'll get. He made it sound like the Berry deal was the exception to the fact. I don't know. Maybe ,this camp, we'll see Shipp. Hambrick, and somebody else, step up.

I don't know enough about Alexander to know if that's normal or not.

Anybody else see Randy Moss walk off the field before the onside kick yesterday? I realize they had no chance of getting the ball back, can't recover an onside kick in less than 2 seconds. But it was just another example of what is wrong with Moss, great player, another phenomenal year despite the injury, but he doesn't understand the concept of team, he doesn't believe in standing on the sideline with his teammates. In fact I bet Moss did it KNOWING Fox would catch him doing it so he'd get more attention.

really not normal, but definitely f'ed up

he had the 3rd most carries in the league, lost multiple fumbles including near the goal line and had negative carries 3 times prior on that same drive

he definitely loves the limelight and seattle isn't a good place for it

hate to say it, but neither is Phoenix

the only real hand seattle has in this is the franchise tag, and he is definitely worth top 5 money

however, if he hits the open market I could see him on a glamour team or a team that will allow him to be on national TV, in front of the press, on the talkshows

phoenix doesn't fit that bill any more than seattle does

I think the word you are searching for is "maturity". Martin has it, Emmitt has it, heck, Fitz seems more mature than Alexander. I'm not saying the guy isn't a great talent, but I don't want a player who thinks of himself ahead of the team. That thinking is not going to cut it for me and I doubt it will cut it for Green either.

What has he done to "love the limelight"? He apologized today and genuinely felt bad. TO and Moss love the limelight, I've never seen it with Alexander.

I don't care what Alexander said, he'd make this team tremendously better. If Green wants him though he'll have to pay huge to get him. It sure would be nice to have a Pro Bowl RB in his prime wouldn't it?
