That fumble by the endzone, what moronic idea was to pick up the ball and run into the teeth of the players of the offense still on the field into the endzone when all he had to do was pick up the ball and run from where the fumble occur... wait, I know his sense of his direction attempting to return kicks :)

I thought he picked it up outside the endZone. If so he had to try and run it out.

No, I fully understand that but he picked up the ball and ran freaking backwards into the endzone on a loop around instead of picking it up and turning around and running up open field for a possible score

If the ball was heading to the end zone the impetus was produced by the ball, not the person recovering it. Of course you never know what an official will call. This is a tricky situation. My guess is no safety even if he’d stayed in the end zone though I’d expect a review and some disagreement.

Just frustrated me Harry. It's common sense logistics of knowing where you are. He should have just fell on that ball instead of going into a direction which has no benefit at all... that's befuddling

I was actually happy he thought enough to bring it out. I was worried that he was going to fall down and because "he gained possession outside of the endzone" and then went into the endzone, he would be called for a S.

Hard to fault him, given That adrenaline usually kicks in those situations. Just glad that he did not get called for a safety, and just got the ball.

i know in INTs there is a "momentum into the endzone" ruling that brings it out to where the change of possession occurred

curious if that also applies for fumbles

Harry is right -- Simmons stripped the ball free and it was bouncing towards the endzone and Murphy had to follow it to pick it up

Probably correct but in a high stakes game I don't know that I would want my players to risk it personally.

He should have jumped on and stayed

Was happy he recovered it but knew bad things were coming when the Canadian doofus came back out to try and get us out of there.

“Such impetus may be imparted by a kick, pass, fumble, or in certain instances by batting the ball.”

After what he did as a kick returner/punt returner, I'd recommend he just secure the ball in the future.
