I've been a Cards' fan since 67'. I bleed Cardinal Red! But, I just cannot find it in me to get excited when D.A. is in the game. As I watched from my local sports bar and the score got to be 31-14, I thought one more series and I'm out of here. I have NEVER walked out on a game! Well, we scored, and then GHayes scored, and suddenly I'm thinking...maybe....maybe...BUT, in my head I'm hearing, D.A. is going to blow it. Maybe not this play...Or the next...but he will! I felt no joy when he was picked. More like, yeah, like you didn't see that coming.
When Max was handed the "keys" to the Cards' offense. I thought, hmmmm? The kids' got moxie, the players seem to want him in there...Maybe he can spark us. In fairness to Max I think it's hard to judge him accurately when 300-lb cheetahs are chasing him down like he's an antelope on every play. I can see him becoming a reliable back-up but I'm not seeing the arm-strength to scare teams deep. As great as Joe Montana was, I wonder how we would fare in todays game of football with much faster and bigger players.
Anyways, I'm done. An eternal kool-aider bites the dust. At least for this year. Hope will spring eternal come draft day I'm sure. The thing is I don't really blame the front office. Or even Coach Whiz'. I think the Cards' front office played "chicken" w/Kurt and lost. They figured a guy with that many kids and a hunger for the game was not going to walk away from a check that size...OR one more shot at glory. But, he did. I personally think when he got laid out late in the Saints' game, that was it. Anyways, Leinart was "option B" but neither Whiz', the front office, or even his teammates seemed to be solidly in his corner. I seriously doubt he would be doing much better if he was still here. It doesn't take a genius to see that there's a lack of quality QB's out there. Whiz' bought into the idea that D.A.'s gun-arm (with some tinkering) would be the answer. Clearly, it hasn't been. Lightning seldom strikes twice in the same place. Yesterday, I'm screaming kick the FG. Take the points! Then I watch a hurried up pass-play where D.A. "bounces' the ball off his own lineman's head?/? I shook my head and groaned.
Kurt's excellence at QB "masked" alot of the teams' short-comings. Unless you have a top-notch Defense I don't see how you can win with-out a great QB. It was a great run! ...And it may one day be again. Soon, I hope. I'm also hoping we see "Big Red" Skelton before the end of the year. If so, I will settle in at my local sports bar and cheer. I wish everyone well. This fan board means alot to me. Take Care! Mark in S.C. GO CARDS!
