Very rarely do I dole out praise to ESPN, but I think they got it right with Tirico, Gruden, and Jaws. This may end up being the best play calling crew this year. FINALLY I can watch MNF without it being muted again. Wow, was Kornheiser bringing them down.

I agree Ct-78, I can't remember when I have enjoyed a telecast as much as this one. This is a good unit. I hope the network doesn't break it up.

It's great to see that they are talking about the game and not stupid, irrelovant crap. Guess the Dennis Miller/Tony Kornheiser type experiment is over.

Gruden is a pleasent surprise in the booth. He is great, not only does he know a lot, but he knows how to translate that information across to the fans.

I concur.

Although I would like to point out that Arizona (not Ariz. St.) defeated #2 Oregon after knocking QB Dixon out of the game. I would know...I rushed the field after that game.

They were competent and not boring. Which, after the really crappy crews ESPN and the NFL network has put together the last few years made them sound brilliant.

Loved Gruden. He has a very smooth delivery and seemed very knowledgeable on the players.

I was very happy with the broadcast. My favorite part? When Jaws was stating the Cards were last in rushing yards and last in rushing atttempts. Grudens response," They had three 1000 yard receivers last year. I think this team has a pretty good idea of what they're doing."

Gruden was great during the combine on the NFLN and was so tonight. I mentioned to my wife last night that this was the best announcing team i had heard in awhile. Gruden's more like a normal guy up there and not trying some schtick to get noticed.

I loved the crew tonight as well. And I'm not sure how many people are aware of how damn funny John Gruden really is. I was watching a "road to the SB" special on the NFL Network and they showed the Bucs run. They have Gruden mic'd up during practices, games, etc and he was cracking me up. Him and Warren Sapp made for some great entertainment. People have probably seen him yelling up a storm in practice, but the guy has a lot of personality to go along with it.

Good, not great, but gold compared to what it was.
I still don't think 3 is the right number of guys.
I think as long as Jaws is there, the other two are probably interchangable.

Woah! Lets not go nuts. The new crew is quite an improvement. Just by taking Korn-hole out of the picture was an automatic improvement since Korn-hole's suckage is one of great influence.

But Gruden was shaky at times, and they definately talked about stupid, irrelivent crap. They were STILL talking about Vick while Adrian Wilson made his best play of the night.

Yeah, it was helpful when he pointed out that they were also last in rushing attempts, which is different than just being the worst rushing team. Reflects the fact that though we know Whiz and Grimm want a great rushing game, they are not going to misallign their offensive scheme before it's ready.

I like this crew as well. Both Jaws and Gruden's preparation will be excellent. Jaws was on Mike and Mike this morning, and they had him pass the phone to Gruden, because they were watching tape together on the bus.

Also, we're not going to have to deal with the third guy trying to steer the conversation towards a joke, which was the function of Miller/Kornheiser. The jokes will not come out of the conversation.

I seem to remember last year, when we had a national broadcast game, Favre had just announced he was going to be a Jet. During that game, Kornheiser all but forgot about the teams on the field with the Favre love-fest. In fact, I made the Kornheiser bingo game and made the middle "free" square the Brett Favre square, because we could all see that coming.

This time around, the Vick news breaks and could have easily dominated the broadcast. And while they would talk about it from time-to-time, it rarely detracted from the play on the field.

What a difference Gruden made in that respect. I like this crew alot.

I was thinking the same thing also. The MNF crew might actually be somewhat decent this year.
