Ok im sold.
Me 2. If I weren't so damn cheap, and trying to pay down credit cards, I'd be in heaven.
Ok im sold.
Oh Shane, I don't know if you have watched an HDDVD yet, but for some, the differences are minimal. Mine were pretty dramatic, because of my 1080p display.
The biggest difference that you should be able to see are blacker blacks, (Batman Begins) crisper colors (King Kong) and less grain.
That's a great price for a HDDVD player, but the lack of multi-channel audio out is a deal breaker for me.
Regarding old films as new HD releases, think of it this way-Film has always been a "high resolution" format, video is just now catching up. 1080P is now and 4K is on the horizon, once they get the storage and data rates caught up, consumer media will be able to show movies as they were originally captured. I for one can't wait!
Just a clarification.
No movies before 2000 were shot in HD. HD means High Definition, which is a video format. Film vs. HD (or any video) is predicated on the resolution of the image. In essence, High Definition is higher than standard video, however, it is nowhere near the resolution of film.
High Resolution, therefore, can refer to movies shot on film, from 16mm to 72mm. High Definition refers to the video signal, not the movie itself (although that is changing with many more features starting to be filmed on it).
The rest of what Dreamcast said is spot on.
Ok so can the movies shot back before 2000 be truly changed to an HD format? If they were not shot in such a format?
yes, again because of the resolution.
Shane, do you have the original boxes? I wonder if you still have the UPC on there, that you could turn in to get the 5 free movies.
ahh crap nevermind. The previous owner cut out the UPC's
This thing is pristine though not a scratch on it looks Brand New. Not bad for 179.00
Makes me wonder if he bought the player, just to get the free movies, and then sold it.
He certainly could have. But he took a loss on the player because I got it for 179.00 I went and looked at best buy and they were still selling same model for 299.00 so seems like it didnt pay for him if thats what he did. In fact the remote and batteries were still in factory packaging so you are probably dead on.
Amazon was selling it for 225 for a while there. You still got a hell of a deal at $179 though. I paid $249 and with the $75 difference, you could easily buy 5 movies with that if you shop around.

Actually, there is a way that you can get the A20 with multichannel audio for $250 as well.

You still get the 5 free movies too. You have to jump through a couple of hoops, but it may be worth it, depending on the person.
Interesting.... Thanks for the link!
