In this article he admits to not being 100% physically or mentally, and isn't sure if he would be able to finish the entire season. THEN WHY UN-RETIRE???????? I have zero respect for Brett Favre. It is obvious he is only coming back to stick it to Green Bay. I hope he is booed off the field by the fourth game and that's how his career ends.

He built a legacy his first 15 years of his career and has all but ruined it the last 4.

Thats great. We all know he loves the game, but he has created what appears to be an intentional media circus for the last 5 years regarding leaving the game and coming back. Obviously I'm not a Packer fan but if I were I would feel slighted by him at this point because he EAGERLY pursued playing for the Vikings, and anyone with half a brain knew it was to stick it to Green Bay; otherwise, he'd still be playing for the Jets, who he also screwed over in this process. There are at least 5 teams in the NFL who would have signed Favre for the same amount of money, benched the current starter and given him the same promises the Vikings gave. If Favre's intentions were altruistic, he would have looked at other options.

Picture this example. Derek Jeter forces a trade out of New York because of disagreements with management; and he is dealt to, lets say, the Houston Astros. He plays one season and retires. He decides half way through offseason he wants to play again, but he signs with the Boston Red Sox. How pissed would Yankee fans be at Jeter?

It goes further than the love of the game. To Favre it is almost vendictive for him to be pulling this stunt. In my eyes and to many other NFL fans, he will be remembered for this stunt and his retirement ambivalance moreso than any of his on the field accomplishments.

To all that, I say: So what? Take yourself out of a spectator's seat and inton the seat of a man who is one of the best on the planet at what he does. He loves throwing the football and beating defenses. Does he do it as well as he did 10 years ago? Hell no. But he sgtill loves trying, and he still happens to be better at it then most others in the NFL.

It's not "love of the game" as YOU said, it's love for his JOB. His job is slinging the football and beating defenses. He's a man, not a Packer or even an NFL icon...he's just a man who likes competing at the highest level. No one said he's altruistic--he's in it to satisfy himself. Nothing wrong with that., we all do it every day. Why should Favre be different then us?

Should he he have gone to the Vikes TC this summer? Yeah,he should have. But the hate is craziness, IMO.

if you had an entire fan base who loved,LOVED you, i would hope you had more respect for other people to not hold their loyalties hostage for 2 full offseasons and then question their fanhood.

Seriously.

Well...he even admitted as much that he is a Packer for life when he signed with the Jets and many regard him as an NFL icon and thats what makes him different than us. We can try and marginalize him as one of us, but at the end of the day he is a professional athlete, a celebrity and an icon that many look up to. He will always be held to a higher standard than any of us; its just the way the world works. We cant get away with that stuff at our job; at least I would be given my walking papers half way through his ambivalence. That word "professional" in his job title treads a lot of water and IMO his tactics to eventually go to the hated rival were not done professionally. As I stated before, he could have played for many teams in the NFL, he purposly flirted with the Vikings. Put two and two together and it doesn't take a genious to figure out what his plan is.

Also you kind of paraphrased my sentence of "love of the game" into "likes competing at the highest level" and "he still loves trying" So I can't find much of a difference there. Also, Favre has said he likes both the game and his job; otherwise, why would he be playing? Why would Kurt Warner still be out there?

I don't think its "hate" moreso than its just really annoying.

Because you paraphrased me in response to my original post. I said he loved his job. YOU said he loved the game, I tried to clarify that with those statements.

I don't think he "loves the game" like you do. I think he loves playing it.

You're still not acknowledging the fact that he LOVES playing for a NFC North team, one of Green Bay's biggest (if not the biggest) rival.

Enough with the love the game garbage, Brett is trying to stick it to Green Bay, that's obvious. If his only desire was to play the game he LOVES so much he wouldn't be calling Minnesota staff during the offseason (two years ago) on a phone bought and paid for by GREEN BAY!

The guy is selfish moron.

Can't stand him either. Coming across as nothing but selfish. I also can't stand hearing about him anymore. Enough is too much with this guy.

As he has said... it is his LEGACY and he'll do with it as he sees fit.

Whatever he does in Minny, he's still a first ballot Hall of Famer. (sic)

He may be selfish--again, so what? He's only a man with all of the faults that come with that.

And again, it's not a "love of the game." It's a love of playing football and competing. There's a subtle difference: he's not holding the "game" in the same reverence as you; he just wants to keep doing what he loves to do. I can't blame him for that.

And the Vikings give him the best chance of getting back to the superbowl. I don't think he's playing there to stick it to the Packers. If the Chargers needed a QB to complete their puzzle I'll bet he'd be playing there instead.

I just don't see why the fans feelings on the matter should be of concern to Favre. There are plenty of reasons why what he did was *******, but I don't think making NFL fans insane is one of them.

I empathize with his inner conflict, but the public way he carries it out is annoying.
Worse still, we give him the forum to do so.

Do you really think ESPN would be giving us the Farve beat down if the majority of people weren't clicking on those types of stories on the site?

Technology has provided our media with the ability to measure and adapt quickly.

Annoyed with Farve? The issue isn't with him, you can ignore an attention starved child, it's with us for encouraging him.

(sic) means that something being quoted is being quoted exactly, even though the quote might be misspelled or a nonsensical word.

It is usually a subtle put-down of the person who made the original quote, with the "quoter" pointing out the mistake by employing the (sic).

In this case, I assume that "Famer" is not an actual or recognized word.

All I know is that Brett could still be the QB in Green Bay had he not thought he was bigger than the team. I know he has his complaints with them but they had to have a backup plan, because he couldn't be relied upon to work with their timetable. I think his desire to play for the Vikings is beyond petty. Will it even be worth it if Green Bay splits those games?
