I hate it when they initially say something like, "that's just good defense," and then replay shows its obvious PI and they refused to let go of their previous statement. I mean everybody does it. I yell out, "call the hold!" Then they show the replay and I see it really wasn't a holding I know I was wrong. The announcers during the ASU game last night were so much worse than these guys.

Are you referring to the punt that Johnson went to pick up after a Steeler had already touched the ball? I'm telling my wife how crazy is makes me that this is how those idiots make a good living and they don't know the rules. Yes it's a bit of an obscure rule and I don't understand why it is a rule but if you have watched football for more than 3 years you should know this rule.

They go off about the "fumble" for 2 minutes before being corrected by the official's call. Lazy and stupid is no way to go through life Aikman and clueless side kick.

Imo, he's a pretty decent baseball announcer, and a below average football announcer.

I could tell Aikman knew the rule but it seemed like he didn't want to correct Brennaman and figured let the ref do it.

This is sooo prevalent; like they just refuse to admit their initial statement was completely wrong. It's ok buddy, you won't get fired for being wrong. You SHOULD GET REASSIGNED for consistently stating the wrong thing, and then refusing to correct your position after watching the (more obvious) replay.

Sadly this has been going on since the advent of instant replay, and will likely never change. Ugh.

My favorite 'cover our butts' line from announcers is this one and I heard it several times in the past few weeks during football and baseball games. Ready? Here it is...

Something happens. Announcer says something stupid that is not correct. Rules guy comes on and tells them the official got it right and the announcer says this to cover his butt:

"Well if that's the rule then they got it right."

Uhh, yeah, it IS the rule, he just read you the rule. So there is no more "if that's the rule."

It's like they are trying to say; I may be wrong but we will never know. rofl.
