September 2007 - Leinart was struggling horribly against the Ravens (I think the score was like 23-6 and Leinart was 9-20 for like 53 yards in the whole game)... The offensive line was a leaking sieve and Leinart was taking a brutal beating.

So what happened next?

Warner came in and ran the no huddle to perfection.

He brought the Cardinals back to tie the game and almost won it - and that started the transition to Warner.

So where am I going with this?

When an offense is struggling like ours is - sometimes you need to go out of the normal [run run pass punt] scheme...

I'd like to see the Cardinals come out and start shaking things up a bit...

For example the 1st or second play from the offense DA should heave the bomb to Fitz... I don't care if the ball is 20 yards over his head this stretches the defense...

I'd like to see DA run some no huddle - there's nothing better for a struggling offense than to not allow defensive substitutions... DA has been around the league long enough to pick up the defenses and the pace. Just watching Peyton Manning run the no huddle and how much confusion this brought to the Giants shows how effective it can be.

I'd like to see more misdirection... watching the Saints/49ers last night one play stuck out to me - Brees took a 2 step drop, pumped a fake screen left - pumped a fake screen right and then hit Shockey over the middle for an easy 15-20 yard gain... There needs to be more plays like this for the Cards... plays that confuse the defense and keeps them on their heels - reverses, fake reverses, etc...

I'd also like to see more stacking of the wide receivers... this allows more quick outs, WR picks, and easy slants for DA to get into some rhythm (which he needs since he is extremely streaky).

Granted this team needs to step up on the defensive side big time - and these idiotic penalties need to stop..

But what are your thoughts? do you think DA is capable of running the no huddle? do you think our OC is doing enough to get us in a rhythm?

We have some great football minds here at ASFN and I'd like to hear your thoughts...

I think Anderson can run the no huddle, but can the entire team is the question.

The offense cannot take a life time 50% completion rate, and make it worse with bad protection, and reciever running the wrong routes.

Anderson is what he is when it comes to his abilities, we need some help not hinderance from the supporting cast.

The sequence I would like to see is the Cardinals receive the opening kick off, drive into, at least our own territory, conservatively (meaning a lot of running). Punt, and pin the opposition within there own 20. Play good defense, and force a 3 & out. Take the good field position in for a score.

That, I believe, would play to our current team's strengths.

It's an interesting thought. DA definitely looks like he's overthinking things out there (on top of his other issues) maybe speeding things up and gettin him moving would shake him out of his head and he'll just start playing football.

If that doesn't work there is a big fountain in the shopping center by my house and I got a whole pocket full of quarters. Star light, star bright, first star I see tonight... ;)

This suggestion is every bit as as good and more reasonable than some of the other threads that have been posted lately...

Leinart's gone, Warner isn't coming back, Derek Anderson is the Cardinals QB - deal with it, people!

I'm really not concerned about the offensive play calling, Whiz excels at this.

As Rugby stated we have mistakes being made by every member of the offense.

Until the O-line unit gets on the same page the running game and pass protection will be hit and miss. Hit being DA get clobbered and miss being another incompletion.

Rookie WR's and a QB who still is digesting the play book doesn't help as well.

Maybe the hurry up O is the answer.

I would like to see Stevie and Williams run fly/go patterns with Fitz attacking the middle of the field. Either you get one on one with the go patterns or Fitz is open over the middle. If the D counters with more DB's then run the ball.

Change them in for pennies, you will get a lot more chances.

Try the no-huddle, what's the worse that could happen, no third down conversion or a turnover? Sorry, I am running out of koolaid, I need to at least see a pulse on Sunday.

Good idea, but I'm not so sure DA and/or his receivers can execute it.

What makes the no-huddle work is timing, rhythm, quick decisions and delivering the ball to the right person at the right place at the right time. You always had the feeling that all of this was second-nature to Warner (i.e. he knew that whatever he tried would work).

Anderson has yet to show he can do this. And he and his receivers have yet to show they're in enough synch to make the no-huddle work.

If the coaches feel that both Anderson and his receiver are capable of eventually reaching that point, then by all means, our goal should be to make the no-huddle a key weapon in our offensive arsenal.

But I don't think we're there yet.

No huddle? So the defense can be out there twice as quick on the 3 and out?

No huddle isn't the same as a 2 minute offense, or least doesn't have to be. Get to the LOS and call the play and survey the D and check out of the original call and see how the D adjusts and so forth until the ball is snapped. Peyton typically uses most of the play clock when in a hurry up O.
