As the reputation of the league goes down the drain, it is amazing that Daryl Washington was hit with the most severe and irreparable punishment that I can remember an impact player ever facing. Sure would have been nice to have him

I'm with cheese here. What? Where did this come from?

The dude got suspended for assault and two substance abuse issues. Smoke weed all you want, in my mind - but if your career is on a razor edge, maybe it's time to go clean.

Argh.

Why did Josh Gordon get multiple chances and not D-Wash. WHY IS AQIB TALIB still get pass after pass? D-Wash was a Pro Bowl quality MLB and his career was flushed. Hardly a troll.just irritated that alleged criminals still play while Washington was railroaded

I agree the league used Dwash as an example because he was on a team nobody cared about, he was used to get the harshest punshment and made an example of, because losing him wouldnt hurt ratingsm

But when the idiot opted out and wouldn't play for the min for the Cards once reinstated, he showed he is a giant Pudwacker so good riddance

If he doesn't care about the boys in the locker room..... or the fans & ownership that pay his salary...... I got no interest in caring for him back.

So much talent, and his claim to fame will be getting posterized.

If he's such an impact player - why isn't he on an NFL roster? Not even brought in as a camp body.

The reason? He has no interest in playing football. That's on him and not the Cards or the league.

Not defending D Wash but NFL gave second chances to Greg Hardy & Aldon Smith and while Hardy is beginng a career in MMA and playing in AFL I think, Smith may still get another shot if a team is willing to bring him in, both should be permanently banned from NFL IMO.

I think Aldon is already banned from the nfl. He applied for reinstatement two years ago and his request hasn’t been acknowledged.

Pure speculation on my part but with Aldon’s latest incident, I think the league has quietly told him to go away

I do agree on Gordon though. He is the NFL's version of Steve Howe. He was a former pitcher for the Dodgers who kept on getting chance after chance. 7 times suspended(including one time for life although he was reinstated). He had the skills to be a great pitcher and showed flashes of brilliance but decided that coke was his master. Surprisingly he played until the late 90's although he was out of baseball for long periods of time including a 4 year absence. Gordon is the same issue but my feelings on it is that it's weed. It's not a PED so suspending someone for a year at a clip for weed is a bit extreme. Agreed, though, that Washington had other issues as well.

Smith obviously has an alcoholism problem. That is fixable if he wants to be fixed. I was reading up on him and it said one incident where he allegedly drank multiple bottles of tequila. Multiple? Mortal man would be in the gutter after consuming one 750l bottle(well, I do have the distinction of drinking 2 bottles of 100 proof vodka in one night back in my binge drinking days). But his issues are no where near as egregious as Hardy actually tried to kill his then girlfriend and beat the brakes off of her.

It looks like Gordon's problem is with all the drugs: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...rug-use/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.00fd135b6e66

A big difference between Gordon and Washington is that Gordon is still (amazingly) on his rookie contract. He's scheduled to make $720k this year — and he'll only have 3 accrued seasons if he plays, which means that he'd be a 28 year-old restricted free agent next year.

If you can get a Top 12 WR for less than $1m a year, you're going to jump through a lot of hoops to keep him on the roster. If you have a guy who already stole $10 million from you, you're not going to be that interested in continuing to give him chances.

my understanding is we offered Dwash a job, he didn't like the pay and never re-entered the NFL.

Exactly. Wanted D-Wash back last season, but clearly, D-Wash didn't want to be back. His problem, not mine.

D-Weed did this to himself. He never got clean after he was suspended. It's not like they suspendend him for years after the first positive test. He had plenty of chances he just chose to get high until he was broke and now it's too late.

Granted all most of his mistakes are alcohol related, he has a wide variety of charges on his record to include assaulting a woman by biting her and climbed out her window. Also, his multiple DUI arrests, its only a matter of time before he does kill someone so he in my opinion is not that far off from Hardy.
