+1. That's plan going into it by everyone who is asked how to beat the Giants. The gameplan was stop the run and make Eli beat us. He did.

I think that's more a result of who we have on the field playing defense than a game plan.

The Cards stop the run every week and have trouble with whatever QB happens to be on the other side.

Its like our defense is the reverse of our offense. Run=Good. Pass=Bad

I would love to hear someone who really knows defense diagnose why the Cards stuggle against the pass

I dont think its pass rush -- the Cards are in the upper half

they put people in third and long repeatedly -- and seemingly give up conversions repeatedly.

Part of it I am sure is the drop off in corner talent -- after DRC and Hood (collectively -- average at this point) it goes quickly.

Rolle seems to be the embodiment of the Cardinal defense overall -- big plays in both directions

Wilson is clearly far more impactful close to the line of scrimmage rather than dropping in coverage

I think that is the key. The Cards essentially play either a 4-4-3 or a 3-5-3 defense.

The Giants coach Tom Coughlin actually gave our front 7 a compliment by saying they were as good as any they've faced this year. A healthy Rod Hood would have helped but we definitely need to upgrade our DBs in the off-season. I'm sure Green is gone and hopefully we'll pick up a solid vet for nickel and draft another corner to play dime.

I wasnt sure if he was giving a little of a backhanded compliment-- he said the Cards play that 8 man front against the run as well as anyone.

But that still doesnt explain all the conversions on third and long. At that point, the 8 man front is gone and replaced with the nickle-- and it seems the Cards just arent good playing nickle/dime coverages.

No doubt that Hood would have helped -- and that is what makes me think its corners 3 and 4 and safeties 3 and 4 on the roster that need to be upgraded --

It wouldn't surprise me if we took another corner in the 1st round again.
