I think that JJ will run at least 70 yds on Sunday

Hope you're right. I just started another thread on adjustments the Cards will make after the bye. In it, I said that if we can't run the ball this week with an extra week to prepare, it's probably time to give up any hope for the run game this season.

I'd love to see JJ get 20+ carries and see what he does with it.

I think that the game is slowing, and will continue to slow, down for JJ.

TEN is middle of the pack in rushing defense at about 116 yards allowed per game. They won't be pushovers.

But CAR is 2nd in the league, which may explain why we had a rough go of it last week.

I think our offensive line will continue to improve, so we'll probably see our best rushing performance of the season sun. Don't know that it will be JJ though.

Carolina is also 2nd in the NFL in lowest YPC allowed at 3.1, only Tampa Bay at 2.9 is better.

Ten on the other hand gives up 4.5 YPC, only 6 teams allow more yards per carry(ironically Indy, Atlanta and Cincy all are in the bottom 5 yet widely regarded as having great defenses).

I expect we'll be able to run the ball better, my one fear is all this talk about changing how we do things makes me think we're changing our blocking schemes and we may see some transition problems like what Wolfley talked about in the Carolina game with regards to zone blocking.

I really hope JJ has turned the corner, all the signs point to it, Wolfley and Pasch saying he's had consistently good practices for the last few weeks, both saying he's running harder and more confidently, some recent success(compared to his start). If he can start giving us some consistent threat and Shipp plays well it's going to make our offense so much more dangerous.

Is anyone else depressed by how unlikely a 70-yard game from one of our backs seems?

70 yards ain't much to write home about.

I think our

RB's will do great this week, especially JJ. He seemed much more comfortable with a good lead blocker in front of him. If this new FB is really a blocker, expect JJ to follow him to, at least. two 15-20yd. runs. Then he and Shipp will pile on the 5-10 yarders, If they use this blcking FB JJ has his best day.

If you read on PFW, Cedric Benson is talking about the same thing, said all the camp and preseason he missed put him behind in figuring out the speed of the game. I read an article the other day where he said he'd specifically talked about that with both Cadillac and Brown(apparently they are friends from all the all america shows and stuff) and they both told him that was a big shock to them when they got to camp and preseason games. Said nothing they saw in rookie camp or minicamp prepared them for it you had to experience it in the preseason to grasp how much faster the NFL is.

JJ didn't miss camp of course so he has less excuse than Benson.

I think JJ is slowing down more than the game is slowing down for him. I would say let him return punts but our punt returner is 7th in the league and does not fumble. Come to think about it our kicker, punter, and punt returner are right there with our receivers.

When did JJ turn some corner?

Does it really matter? If JJ does go over 70 yards Sunday and looks good doing it some people will say hey he's finally broken through, and others will say he's only had 1 good game of X carries don't get carried away (even if X carries is close to the number of carries he had prior to this game).

JJ is going to have to do it, and more than once, to prove he can play. He was the 4th RB picked, most had him rated as the 4th RB, we just didn't get lucky enough to have Cadillac fall to us.

Cadillac is the only rookie RB who's really proven himself yet and he's missed the last 2 1/2 games with injury. Brown has had 1 REALLY impressive game (132 yards against Carolina who has the 2nd best run defense). He had one impressive game against Buffalo(they have the NFL's worst run defense in YPC) and 3 unimpressive games. He has shown he has size and talent and he's getting better. I'd bet Miami still wishes they took Cadillac although so far Brown is more durable.

Benson is looking like a guy who missed camp, he has one 19 yard run and is averaging under 2 YPC on the rest of his carries. He can't pass block and is a terrible receiver, the way Jones is playing Benson is going to be playing very sparingly unless Jones gets hurt.

JJ has been struggling mightily although his last 2 games were his best. Hopefully that's a sign he's turned the corner.

Just stop. Seriously.

And for the record, it was last game in his only 4 carries when averaged 3.5 per, didn't get hit in the backfield, and ran with confidence. Not much to write home about, but DEFINITELY not anything for you to hang your argument on. Especially when Shipp played worse in that game than JJ.

But of course, you know that...because you avoided addressing it two weeks ago too.

You could be a little less transparent in your hatred of the kid.
