I think what we really need is to get rid of Eisley

He costs way too much for what he is doing for the team and he has a long contract. People keep saying how we should try to be shopping Gugliotta or White, why aren't most of you mentioning Eisley? Gugliotta is going to be gone soon and White is the only really big guy we have and isn't as expensive as Eisley. I think I might trade two draft picks to get rid of him, maybe even three!

I think we know what our nucleous is right now, I don't know if we need to draft another player right now. Our team is young enough. If we get a player to help our team I think it will be as a free agent.

The reason JJ plays so well is we now have a new whipping boy since Eisley is here. :D

Eisley has never been better then a Serviceable back up. I can't believe that Scott Layden gave him so much money

Much easier said than done. Of course, if we don't get Milos over here, then at least Eisley has some use to us.

some but not enough, we can get a servicible point guard for much less money. I think we could maybe get rid of him for some draft pics. Is there a way we can get the Bobcats to take him?

Will of course the Phoenix Suns should try to move Howard Eiseley. I'm not a huge fan of his, but he seems like a decent backup point guard to me. The problem is his big contract. I wouldn't expect teams to start lining up to get him.

Why do you think draft picks are so worthless that we can just throw them away?

Well look at the league, how many draft picks end up being great players? How many end up being worth what we are paying for Eisely even? Draft picks are often times a crap shoot, although the Suns seem to play the game better than most teams. I think we have enough young players on our team. We can use the extra money to sign someone who is actually worth what we pay him.

That's not what I asked. You don't just throw away first round draft picks. We especially would be stupid to offer any team 2 1st rounders just to take someone off our hands. We could just send 2 draft picks somewhere and get a decent player in return instead.

How would it just be "throwing away two draft picks?" I think having Eisely on our team and having all that money tied up could hurt us more than two first round draft picks might help us.

I'm not wildly excited about giving away draft picks, but value of clearing that much cap space is no small matter either. The difference between having $7-$8 million versus $13-$14 million is huge. If the Suns just sat on it, the amount gets even bigger when White's contract comes up next year.

1st round picks are just so important to teams. Amare was the 9th pick, Marion was the 9th pick, Zarko the 17th, Barbosa the 22nd, etc. You build teams with the draft.
(JJ 10th, and Boston did a stupid thing in trading him)

Eisleys big contract is going to hurt us some until we get rid of it.
But, remember we got rid of Pennys "BIG" contract and that made Eisleys look small.

We are just stuck with Eisleys contract for now unless we can work out something with someone to take him. But, I do not think the suns would ever trade two 1st picks to get rid of his contract, they will eat it instead, and I do not believe they will let it effect them in drafting or signing a free agent they really would want.

:)

I agree. First round draft picks are just too valuable to use as balast, even though it's to get rid of a bad contract.

micheal finley, steve nash, shawn marion, pat garrity, big jake, barbosa, stephen jackson, amare, casey jacobson, alton ford, wesley person, chris carr, and zarko are just some of the the suns draft picks for the last 10 years. the nba average of a first round pick is 5 years in the nba. of the total 18 players that the suns have drafted since 1994 13 still in the nba and 17 of the 18 have played for at least 3 years. 3 of them have been allstars and amare may join that guard soon. counting amare you are looking at a 22% chance of getting an allstar out of the draft for the suns (nash, finley, marion and amare). of the 9 1st round picks that the suns have had the average pick has been 21.7. almost 44% of our first round picks end up with at least one all star game to their name and you want to give up these players? does anyone out there think that almost 50% chance of loosing any allstar is worth unloading 6 million is salery?

I'd like to look at the past few years and see how many first round picks have panned out for teams. Until recently were our picks that valuable to us? Plus we have a lot of players we're trying to develop now with all those pics and Milo coming where is that playing time going go?

Scotts did a good list on the first page.

Also, you do not have to keep the players you draft either. When you draft promising players, they can have huge trade value. Examples:

Pat Garrity was a must include for the Penny deal.

Michael Finley was a must include for the Kidd trade.

Steve Nash was turned into Shawn Marion.

Also you have to understand that our pick will be a lottery pick, and there is a 50% chance that NYs will be one too. Those can be VERY valuable depending on where they land.

Remember Elton Brand for a No. 2 pick?

Right now it doesn't seem like such a deal (which also shows the importance of picks) but remember when Shareef Abdur Rahim was traded for a No 4 pick (Pau Gasol)??

Or when the suns traded 2 well thought of veterans (Delk and Rogers) for a lottery pick 5 months into his first season (JJ) and a no 23 pick??

Picks are just to valuable. Moving 1 pick to move a salary I am willing to do. More than that would only gain my support if we were 100% sure to land Kobe or TMac (in 2005).

You forgot Big Jake. :D

BTW, Eisley is $13 million. Next season he makes $6.3 million. Last summer you get Brad Miller for $7 million.
