Everybody who has a brain knows that idiot Jr should have waited to see who was non-tendered. The A's non-tendered Mark Redman, and the idiotbacks have no money to go after him. He would be a major upgrade over the chumps they want to sign. They signed Mayne to a $800,000 one year deal. The offers for Sparks and Reynolds total more than 1.5 million according to the east valley tribune.

Redman wants to sign a deal for about 3 million dollars a year according to rotoworld. Without those signings, and throwing in another $700,000 we could have been in the running for Redman. Redman is 29 years old and would have slid nicely into our 3 hole, pushing Elmo into the 4 hole. Either Patterson or Edgar Gonzalez could have rounded out the rotation.

But instead, they sign a washed up, back-up catcher that we don't need, and offer ridiculous guaranteed contracts to two scrap heap pitchers. Jr is under the braindead assumption that he needs to do his shopping before Christmas (thats how we got in the Elmo mess) That is just piss poor baseball management. Redman was 14-9 for Florida last year with a 3.59 era. 190.2 inn 172 hits and the league only hit .239 against him. He is a quality number 3 or 4 starter.

The Giants will probably sign him now.

:stupid:

the d-backs saved money by signing mayne. they non-tendered barajas who would have made significantely more than mayne in arbitration.

You're wrong. They signed Mayne for $800,000 and Barajas was projected to make $500,000 Barajas is better defensively and 8 years younger. The Mayne signing had Brenly written all over it. It was a total waste crap signing.

Well, that's a normal jerky comment from you. What does that have to do with anything?

It's not like Joe Jr has a great track record since the Schilling trade (which probably was Buck Showalter. Let's see we have Albie Lopez, Rick Helling, two year deal for Elmer Dessens - wow that was a great one, signing McCracken to a 2 year deal. that's off the top of my head. I'm sure others can add to the list.

That someone can sit and judge and judge every single move our GM, who brought us a World Series just a few short years ago, with out having any idea how the inside workings of MLB work.

I liken this to me going up to a NASA engineer and telling him how much he f*cked up on the Columbia Shuttle incident and how I would have done thing differently

As another poster so eliquently put it....we traded Schilling.....shouldn't you be going too??

Horrible analogy. GM critiquing in the hot stove league is NOTHING like rocket science ... unless you're a real neophyte in the HSL--in that case you speak only for yourself.

I just think it is stupid to judge the GM before the luster has even had a chance to wear off our championship rings. Calling Joe Jr an "idiot" when you don't even know him or familiar with the situation is just assnine.

There are hundreds of factors that could reason into the recent signings becides $$$ alone

Barajas sucks. He can't hit, and for a defensive catcher, to me, his defense was pretty shoddy. Mayne was a good signing.

Because someone disagrees with you, you want them to go away? I welcome all view points, even from the misguided Joe Jr apologists.

Ever since Showalter left after 2000, and Jr started making the calls, the personel decisions have been less than stellar. He always overpays for mediocre talent. He is a lousy GM that will prevent this team from winning the NL West in the future.

Thanks for using the "*" Ryan, now NO one knows what word you were really trying to use there....

Please expand your vocab and learn some other words that don't have to be asterick-ed out...

Zenny,
Let me know when you get them done. They should be a popular item. :)

I don't think there's anything wrong with fans questioning a GM's move. That's half the fun of baseball. The other half is questioning Brenly's moves. And I don't think being a manager at the major league level is a prerequisite for that either. I do agree that there are a lot of other factors behind the scenes that we don't know about that effect moves. But right now I don't think anything will outweigh the effect money has on all of our deals.

Before there were fantasy leagues, before there was ESPN, we chased over the harp-shaped hills in the offseason like ice melting on a hot stove...(oops...apologies to Dylan Thomas and Robert Frost)...
It's called the Hot Stove season, a time-honored off-season tradition, and we who are unhappy feel ours seems lukewarm at best, heated with Sterno.
