who do they take?

There's been so much pub lately on Cedric Benson and some on Cadillac Williams, but not so much on Ronnie Brown. Is Brown sliding a bit right before the draft or is it typical pre-draft posturing?

I think there's not much action on him because everyone pretty much is in agreement that he is the #1 back in the draft - still kinda weird to me considering he was the back-up on his college football teamn, but for some reason, I agree with his ranking. Cadillac scares me that he is a TJ clone - although with DG, TJ probably would be a 1300 yard back - so maybe that's not such a bad thing.

Brown's the best receiver, Cadillac the best pure runner, and Benson the most proven between the tackle runner. To Green's credit the pick is 4 days away and I dont' honestly know which player he prefers.

I have much more faith in Green than past coaches, he had a good 2004 draft, we improved on the defensive side of the ball considerably and had a good offseason. Being an offensive coach, he will bring the offense around soon. I also fully agree with his benching of McNown (unlike many posters).
He will do what needs to be done and not continue something if it is not working. With that said, after digressing, I think he will make the best decison with all that he is given.

Not sure I saw enough of Cadi to agree w/ you on the TJ assesment cheese. I do think it's dangerous to categorize a player based on getting burned on a similar player in a previous draft.

Based on his production last year w/ da Bears, I bet Denny/Rowen would love to still have TJ. Priest Holmes is very similar.

Brown however, even w/ minimal time as the starter at Auburn, is still the best of the bunch IMO. They won't get him but he is still my top pick of all the RB's and CB's.

Cedric Benson is the best back in the draft. JJ Arrington might be as good a Pro as Brown or Cadillac.

Well, Cheesie, I heard on the radio that Dickerson, I think it was, was the backup on his college team. While I agree it make me nervous, it's not an overriding factor, IMO.

I say Caddy, he is a pure-runner that is also a good recieving option. I really hope we take him in the 1st.

IIRC he wasn't a backup. He alternated with Craig James. The Pony Express.

Because this draft is so deep at RB, you just know one of the 2nd-3rd tier guys will likely end up being every bit as good or better than the top 3.

Maybe Fason or Shelton?? There's a steal in there somewhere.

Yeah they split carries, alternated possessions and IIRC Dickerson's numbers were better. It was quite obvious in college Dickerson was better, he may have been a jerk but he was a hell of a RB.

Dickerson hated splitting carries (great friends with James though) but acknowledges that him not carrying the full load contributed to his long and relatively injury free career in the NFL.

DG just called me to tell me that he really preferred Cadillac Williams, but would settle for Benson if he's available.

The more I read and see on Benson IMO this kid could end up the Emmitt Smith of his time. He runs through tackles, has great balance, can block, I've not seen him with thepass that much. He played through dings and was almost always on the field.

The only back I'm not crazy about is if we keep LJ Shelton and we pick Shelton we would have Shelton behind Shelton..The most ridiculas thing I've ever heard.

I am starting to get into the Cadillace corner as well.

Bobby Bowden's son (the one who coached at Auburn in the mid nineties) said that Cadillac Williams was the best pure runner he has ever seen. Mike Mayock from NFL Films said that Williams reminds him of Ladanian Tomlinson and Tiki Barber.

I have been back and forth on Williams. He will make a running play that will make your jaw drop on one play and then go an entire quarter and pick up 5 yards on 10 carries. The thing about Williams that I think is appealing to Dennis Green is that he is a "quick twitch athlete" and Green can't get enough of those types of guys. Williams may not be a true 4.3 homerun hitter like Micheal Bennett, but if you watch him on tape he is pure explosion for the first 5 yards.

I was one who mistakely compared Williams to Thomas Jones. Outside of their size they are really not similar backs because Williams will go and look for someone to smash into and is a much more natural runner.

I'd be extremely happy with any of the backs, but I think Williams may end up being the best in the long run.

Dickerson and James...back to the glory days of SMU football. Pony Express baby! The "Death Penalty" really killed our program. Thanks NCAA for that one!

Know what Cheese? I was thinking the same exact thing. Alll this spring I believed Williams would be a lot like Jones. Then the other day it hit me. If Jones had been with Green he would probably still be here.

I don't want Cadillac Williams, out of the three. I look at him and see Thomas Jones, and I look at Brown and Benson and see possible Shaun Alexanders. Maybe I'm tainted, because I haven't watched any of these guys play, but I could tell Jones had bust written all over him. I SCREAMED for us to take Alexander instead.

Ah well. We shall see.

Maybe we should do an analysis by conference, what % of SEC 1st round RBs turn out to be busts versus other conferences.

"..and in this corner.."

as for Thomas Jones, my wife and I went to Flagstaff his rookie year after he'd signed, and he had the most piss-poor attitude and way about him towards the fans I'd ever seen.. I told my wife then that he would not be the player the Cards needed him to be, with that crappy attitude!!
I want Carnell Williams, and though similar in build, he is light years ahead in positive karma[Cadi-Karma].. Didn't see alot of of him at Auburn, but someone said he reminded them of LT in SD... :notworthy
