If Eli is there at #3, Cards should do what the Ravens did when they took T. Suggs.

Basically throw the draft scenerios, trades, which reciever to take etc... in the trash and take Manning. Last year Brian Billick said that the Ravens had multiple plans in place for that 10th pick but not one of those involved Terrell Suggs because they were absolutely convinced he would be gone by the time he was picked. When Suggs was still there at #10 they basically threw the plans in the trash and took Suggs because he was the best guy on their board even though he wasn't a primary need.

In regards to Manning it really is amazing to hear that a team like the Giants are gaga over Manning and they have an established starter in Kerry Collins (over 4000 yards passing in 2002 and still a relatively young guy) and the Cards and apparently most Cards fans seem convinced that a quarterback of Manning's potential is not a major priority. Here the Cards sit with an unproven starter (McCown) who's draft bio could have easily been Jake Plummer's (excellent athlete, makes plays with feet, makes spectacular plays, makes way too many boneheaded mistakes, throws the ball all over the field, seems to have difficulty reading defenses, takes time to get into a groove, plays best from behind, may have trouble with a complicated offense) and a back up (King) who was horrible the last time he had a chance to play in a regular season game.

I am as guilty as the next guy when it comes to optimism. 3 months of offseason hope sure does wonders for the reality of the Cards situation. Slice through all the good vibes of Denny Green, Bert Berry, and David Macklin and this still is the same team that gave up the most points in the league and scored the fewest points in the league. If adding Sean Taylor was what we needed to get to the next level (playoffs) I would be all for taking Taylor, but if this team is still 1-3 years away from being really good I say if the chance to take Manning is there you do it.

Maybe Josh McCown goes out and throws for 25 touchdowns next year. I hope he does. If he does we have a wonderful problem on our hands next offseason: 2 extremely talented and young kids playing the single most important position on the field. McCown is a restricted free agent next offseason and would be worth a 1st and a 3rd rounder if another team opted to match the Cards offer.

or

If McCown flops you look damn smart by taking Manning.

 Agree 100% !!!! If Manning or Fitz are there take them. All this talk about trading down is really getting me uneasy.

One problem...

Most expects agree that Manning, Fitz and Gallery are ahead of the rest of the blue-chippers. The most likely scenario is still Manning #1 and Fitz #2...then what?? Why not trade down to #7. The Browns really want Gallery and are willing to pay for him.

Giants Gaga Over Manning

I've read that the Giants are trying to get Kerry Collins to restructure his contract and so far he has been unwilling to do so. Hence the Giants are talking QB in the hope that Collins will renegotiate his contract and then they can select Gallery who they really want. At least this is the story that my Giant friends are passing around.

If you had a crystal ball....

and you saw that Larry Fitzgerald turns out to be the next Randy Moss(with a good attitude), would you still take Manning?

I want Fitz, however, I think it's a moot point. I really believe Manning and Fitz will go 1 and 2. I also believe that we are probably a couple of years away from being real contenders.

That being said, you must put your faith in Dennis Green. His offensive philosophy has always, ALWAYS put points on the board no matter who his qb was. This team will be much more fun to watch if we are averaging 24 to 30 pts a game. He apparently thinks we need another wr to be able to accomplish this. WE DON'T NEED A FRANCHISE QB TO A WINNING TEAM!

And the theory of "if we take Manning and McCown flops, we look smart",......what if Manning never pans out? Don't say that can't happen. If McCown flops we will be shopping big time next year in free agency for a qb. I'm sure there will be a couple of good ones available.

The Giants will draft a QB sometime this draft and if Manning is there you can bet they will take him. This is Kerry Collins contract year. After this year, they must re-sign him or they must have his replacement ready to roll.

If the Cards take a QB I think it will have been a mistake BUT I won't be pissed about it either. I don't think you throw things out the window because a particular guy is available you didn;t think would be. You build a draft plan and you stick to it because your draft plan is usually a plan that will be the most benefit to the team moving forward...or at least you hope it will be.
