Taylor I could see as a veteran "bridge" but why would you bring in McCarron as a temporary placeholder? I mean, he basically doesn't have any experience as a starter so it wouldn't really help the Cardinals as any kind of insurance and for McCarron, he's looking to finally get his shot as a starter and I doubt he'd sign on if it was for a team drafting their QBOTF.

You are probably right. Not a great market out there for proven starters. You can make a list of all the free agents and none really stand out above the others. (except Cousins for big bucks)

I was simply adding to Mitch's point that Glennon went into a new offensive scheme and needed time to adjust/learn. Having the Bears sign him to a starter contract and then turn around in the draft and trade up for Trubisky is not the way to make a new QB confident and comfortable. That is along the same lines as Josh McDaniels backing out of the Colts HC job---only this time it was the team backing out of their commitment to the player.

Performance-wise, the numbers for each guy are pretty close for 2017.

I never said the Cards should sign him. I don't know what would happen if Glennon signed with the Cards . . . and neither do you.

Per Rapoport, the deal includes a guaranteed $18.5 million over three years, with Schefter adding the total deal will be worth $45 million. On Friday morning, Albert Breer of TheMMQB.com reported that "Glennon's three-year, $45 million deal is basically a one-year, $16 million with team options for 2018 and '19."

Got to believe that Glennon signed with the Bears in anticipation of being given full opportunity to be the guy for the next three years. Exactly it was basically a 1 year deal. He got paid starter money for 1 year. He didn’t get a 5 year deal and they drafted a guy. He was a stop gap qb that didn’t work out which is what he’ll be here.

Glennon didn't know that he wasn't the future. From Glennon's viewpoint, he signed with the intent of being the QB for the Bears. There does not appear to be any indication that the Bears told him that he was a 'bridge QB' and that they would be going after a QBOTF in the very same draft year that Glennon signed with them. Glennon did not sign on for a four game audition.

There was chatter on some of the Bear's fan forums that the deal was a good one for the Bears in that they could walk away after the first year.

It was a Bush League move to bring the guy in and toss him aside after four games. That is not what he signed up for.

I think GM had a vision and executed it with or without John Fox on board. I personally liked his plan in itself. But if you are Naggy shouldn't you be looking over the shoulder when things get rough?

His cap hit was $14m last season which had him tied for 18th in the league for qbs. QBs that are listed below him that we’re starters we’re jay cutler and a bunch of QBs still on their rookie contracts.

Is it bush league when your team isn’t winning and the coach is fired for a younger coach? If he felt cheated, maybe he should have played better. If he was playing better or won another game in that frame and didn’t look terrible against a bad packers d maybe he would have started the whole season.

Got to be upfront with a player. They know the business they are in, know that the slightest loss of ability/performance and they're tossed in the scrap heap and sent packing.

If you are signing a guy to be a bridge QB, tell him that is the plan. Apparently the GM didn't even let the HC know that the trade was in the works so I doubt that Glennon was informed of the plan before he signed.

Not my point. My point is his agent and him read the contract if they didn't realized that the bears made a contract they could easily get out of in a year, then shame on them. If they had confidence that he was the dude they wouldn't have made it so easy to get out of.

That article just says he felt cheated, and I get that. But the writing was on the wall that his contract was a one year show me what you got. If he were getting it done Trib would have never seen the field last year, and at very worse they could trade him or he could have put some good play on tape and another team would pay him again. He got 18 mil and is set for life, so cry me a river.

That defines the Bears and their handling of Glennon. It also explains spending $18 mil on a guy to play QB for 4 games---second-rate management of the player and the cap.
