Other than the obvious offensive line that needs to be addressed I think the conerback posistion is a real weakness. I think the Cards should push really hard for Nate Clements. Their other target at conerback should be Nick Harper. If you could land either one they should start opposite Eric Green. Antrel Rolle should either be traded or moved to safety he is a terrible conerback and still can't understand why Green is benched and Rolle isn't.
They also need help at linebacker and should make a push for AdaliusThomas, Lance Briggs or Cato June. Hopefully they haven't blown it with Dansby and can extend his contract. With either of those three, Dansby , and Hayes there is a good LB group.
The second pick will be good enough to get Joe Thomas in the draft, so they should resign Davis move him to G and start Thomas at LT. I would send Orlando Huff and Chike Okeafor packing and take a DE with the second round pick.

In never did like Rolle as a 1st Rd pick to start with. He has always been to slow and you cannot teach speed. He can still learn as he sat out most of last year but speed will always be a problem for him in man to man. Seems to me that there are as many good DB's playing in the NFL who were not top draft picks as those who were. DB's on good teams in college get a lot of hype often undeserved as they are playing behind great defensive lines. Unless there is clear great DB like Deion Sanders I would move this pick down to 3 or 4 as it is always a big gamble. Currently Rolle really sucks and teams will continue to throw at him.

Jammer had 17 passes defended last year and has 3 INT's this year. Hardly falling off the map.

On the Cardinal scale of talent he'd be an all-pro.

The more important question is why do all these highly rated college players come to Arizona and fail?

I agree, but he was the third overall pick, and you don't draft a guy third overall if you think he's going to reap 5 total picks in three years despite being constantly picked on and burned over and over.

That said, he's made huge strides this season and earned the new contract that he got. I like the guy a lot, even if he has been another disappointing first-round Longhorn. :)

Well, we'll just go and get one of those off the cornerback tree.

We have so many holes to fill I do not know where to start. Clearly you cannot just fire the entire OL! I still think some of these guys will be ok if they have a decent coach and decent system to work under. As it takes a few years to develop a good OL even if they have the skills we are in for some tough going.

Anyone thinking we need to add a another RB to go with James? A horse like Jackson who can make a couple of yards even behind a bad OL. Cannot believe we rushed the ball only 5 times Sunday. That has to be a record. We must be the worst running team of all time. Green said the only way he comes back next year is with an extension! What is that all about? Would there be anyway we could bring this guy back??? i sure hope not

Anyone think we might name a GM next year? Damm! I sure hope so!

No matter how many OL we draft next year they are still rookies so how many do we we try and sign in FA? I would sure hope at least two starters including a good center if one is out there. I know our OL is terrible but a back we pay the big bucks to like James should be able to do better than he is--or am I wrong on this?

If I were GM:

3. I'd scan the free agent market for: (a) corners who are big enough to match up with talll WR's and/or speedy enough to stay with the burners, (b) premier help at center and both tackles (we don't need backup fodder anymore, but we do need better front line talent), (c) a 4.3 or faster WR, (d) a WLB who's a more reliable tackler and (d) a FS who can cover sideline to sideline.

If we could do JUST THAT this offseason we'd be able to challenge for the West. Unfortunately premier help at both tackles is unreasonable this yr. as their won't be any front line talent released ; except if your the Cardinals of course.

If I were the GM/coach, here's where I'd start:

  • Trade our top-3 pick to Denver for (T) George Foster, Denver’s 2007 1st and 2nd round picks and next year’s 4th.
    • Denver needs a running back in the worst way. Taking Peterson or Lynch would be a nice long-term compliment to Cutler.
    • Foster is a decent player, but he doesn’t fit in Denver’s small OL scheme (I think he goes about 330 pounds).
  • Draft: OT, C, CB in the first two rounds
  • Free agency:
    • Mike Gandy (LT) and/or Jordan Black (LT)
    • If we can’t get CBs Clemmons or Samuel, I think we ought to look at Randall Gay
    • There are some good OLBs in FA: Thomas, Briggs, June, Diggs…one of them needs to be in Cards uni next year
    • DE’s Justin Smith or Corey Redding
    • We need a backup QB (I’m assuming Warner retires). There aren’t a lot out there on the market that will want to come into a situation as a backup—most of the guys are up-and-comers. Anthony Wright is the only name that fits the bill, though I suspect more will be cut next August.
Our lineup looks like this:

QB: Lienart (Wright or other FA)
RB: James (Arrington)
WR: Fitzgerald (Johnson)
WR: Boldin (McCoy)
TE: Pope (Bergen)
LT: Gandy/Black (rookie)
LG: Davis (M. Brown)
C: Rookie (Leckey)
RG: Lutui (E. Brown)
RT: Foster (Ross)

RDE: Berry (Pace)
DT: Dockett (Cooper)
DT: Watson (Clancy)
LDE: Smith/Redding (Smith)
OLB: FA (Blackstock)
MLB: Hayes (Beisel?)
OLB: Dansby (Johnson)
CB: Green (FA)
CB: Rolle (Rookie)
FS: Francisco (Rolle/Shazor?)
SS: Wilson (Milligan/Shazor?)

P: Capshaw
K: Rackers

Deangelo Hall gets torched get every week. But,unlike the perception of Rolle, at least he's fast, so he must be a good corner. This week it only took about 2 minutes for Devery Hendrson beat him for a 70+ yard TD. Just because this guy runs his mouth people think he's good.

Hall has skills but he is still lacking as a tackler and he does get beat deep. His Safeties have been atrocious again though, Chris Crocker has been one of the worst FA moves I've seen this year. There are several corners I would take over Hall.

Interesting question. But who are they? I'd take Champ Bailey, the Cowboys' guy that plays across from Henry probably (I don't know why his name escapes me right now). I think that might be it. I love Dre Bly, but I think that his abilities are starting to wane. I don't like Marcus Trufant that much. Maybe Cris Gamble? I don't know. Chris McAlister?

Please don't say Ronde Barber. He's great in the Tampa-2, but I don't think he'd survive in a different defense.

Bailey, Newman and McAllister, for sure. Probably Gamble, too. Here are some others:
Darrent Williams (DEN)
Nate Clemmons (BUF)
Antwan Winfield (MIN)
Nathan Vasher (CHI)

He is good. All corners get beat occaisionally. Even Aeneas Williams, Deion Sanders, and Champ Bailey. The problem with the Falcons is that half their starting defense is injured, including at least half of their defensive line and their top two pass rushers. No one looks good without pass rushing.

But at least DeAngelo Hall showed more in his shortened rookie season than Antrel Rolle has shown in his first two.

Really! How many starts has Antrel had?

From PFW:

Teams continue to go after Broncos CB Darrent Williams, in part because they know Champ Bailey is on the other side but also because receivers are consistently getting open. Coaches and scouts remain sold on Williams' potential, confidence and feistiness, but sources in Denver question why the club won't let him play more bump-and-run coverage up at the line of scrimmage, which is what he would prefer.

Um... good choice... :doi:
