Psalms 23:1
If the Cardinals select ANY of the following players with their 5th pick..
Calvin Johnson
Adrian Peterson
Either of the two QBs
Unlike last year, where the Cardinals could afford to be adventerous with their 10th pick, and hit the jackpot when Leinart fell in to their laps, this season they don't have that luxury. There's far too many holes for this squad to fill, and in all honesty, if Thomas is gone and they aren't sold on Branch, Adams or Anderson (and none of the Cornerbacks or Safeties make a jump up in to the top 5 after the Combines) I see them trading down first.
Honestly, this team has two of the best WRs in the NFL now on the same roster. Drafting Calvin Johnson would be a humongous waste. Despite Skorp's wishes, Leinart is the QB of this team for now and the immediate future.. Lastly, the Cards have too much money invested in James to use a first round pick on Peterson. I've heard all names mentioned, and as I said, I'd be willing to bet anything that none of these three will be taken.
I know a LOT of people will make the comment on how Leinart was a "luxury" last season, but was he? In 20 years as a franchise, the Cardinals only once could boast of having "stability" or some kind of QB of the Future (Plummer), and as much as I like Kurt Warner personally, anyone who thought he was anything more than a 2-3 year stopgap was far more optimistic than me. Also, keep in mind, the team was opening a new stadium, and the name appeal of Matt Leinart added to the growth of "new fans".
This year, the team really needs to fix it's core. The Oline problems are and have been well documented. The secondary, with the exception of Adrian Wilson, is a mess.. At LB, Dansby and Hayes appear to be set, however I don't suppose it would kill Arizona to pick up another OLB. At DE, I like Berry and Okeafor however they sure wouldn't be wasting a pick if they took either Jamaal Anderson or Gaines Adams.
My point here-- Arizona has multiple different directions they could wind up taking, and have other scenarios and holes they NEED to fill or couldn't hurt to fill. Picking one of the afforementioned players isn't something that I see as being in the cards (no pun intended).
