$399 is pretty low for what you get.

Get some PC games and you're officially a nerd. Welcome to the club friend. Cookies and punch are in the back.

No its really not.

Says you.

I say mine was worth what I paid for it.

Even if you NEVER use the PS3 for games, it is the best Bluray player on the market. The PS3 has a few pretty good games out right now too.

We can just disagree on this one.

If you have to ask, you are probably in trouble.

Best Blu Ray player on the market? Have you read reviews? It's decent but the Blu Ray player in the PS3 doesn't even meet the convergence standards set by the Blu Ray group.

It's hardly a reference standard Blu Ray player. Having said that, it still outperforms the 360 playback quality of DVD.

I just think that if your buying a gaming machine and using that as your stand along player....that's sacrilege. :D

Hahaha, More evidence on why Sony banking on the PS3 for Blu Ray dominance is a miscalculation. My friend's sister bought her boyfriend a Samsung stand alone Blu Ray player she thought played HD DVD for Christmas. I told her she should have bought the PS3 if she wanted to get him a Blu Ray player and she said, "Why would I buy him a video game machine?" It was a fun convo. No one will win the format war.

I have read the reviews. If you are referring that PS3's lack of 1080p/24 support... addressed with a firmware update.....upcoming DTS:MA support via firmware as well.

Yes, I am using my PS3 as my stand alone Bluray player. The differences no where CLOSE to what I would achieve with a stand alone. Most people can't even take advantage of DTS:MA, although I can now with a new receiver purchase. I have been VERY happy with the PS3 as a Bluray player. I'll buy a stand alone, when they get around $200.

OK. I thought you had gone bonkers comparing the PS3 to a standalone. At any rate, I am still waiting for the Samsung Dual format player. The earlier reviews are in and they say it's reference standard for both formats. It's also going to cost probably $999 as well.

I really should just go get a PS3 and cheap HD-DVD player in the mean time. Especially with the recent PS3 price drop.

Hmm. I advised you do to that 6 months ago. :)
