Cintron - SS - Switch
Finley - CF - Left
Mondesi - RF - Right
Gonzalez - LF - Left
Sexson - 1B - Right
Hillenbrand - 3B - right
Spivey - 2B - right
Moeller - C - right

It would have taken a few good prospects, but this would be a lineup that would put some fear into opposing pitchers. With our pitching, this could have been a lineup that could taken us to the World Series, power and balance. With Gonzo, Finley, Randy and Curt getting older, it probably would have been worth it, the win now additude.

Im sure they inquired, but i dont think the brew crew wanted to give up their "franchise" player.

Sexson would be a great addition. But even with our roster after the trade for Mondesi, I think we'll have a solid lineup with

Counsell - 3B - left
Cintron - SS - switch
Hillenbrand - 1B - right
Gonzo - LF - left
Mondesi - RF - right
Finley - CF - left
Kata - 2B - switch
Hammock - C - right *

* Yes, I believe that Hammock as our lead catcher, backed up by Barajas, is the best combination behind the plate. But I guess that's not going to happen!

I don't think Moeller should be retained. He's not as good defensively as Barajas and Hammock has more versatility. The aforementioned two also call a better game.

This how my lineup would shake up.

1. Counsell/Kata - 3B - L/S
2. Spivey - 2B - R
3. Gonzalez - LF - L
4. Hillenbrand - 1B - R
5. Mondesi - RF - R
6. Finley - CF - L
7. Cintron - SS - S
8. Barajas/Moeller - R

Bob Brenly needs to stop platooning the middle infield positions. Those guys have no chemistry and should get some consistent starts in order to develop one. I have no problem platooning the corner positions, catchers, and RF/LF, but the middle infield needs to play together.

I don't like the idea of Hammock as a regular at catcher. He was blessed with early success, but towards the end of his stint pitchers figured out how to pitch to him:
Month of July: 3 for 25, 10 K, 1 HR, 1 BB

That's a good point about the middle infielders. (Although I think it should be Kata at 2B and Counsell at 3B.) ***

In our proposed lineups, you and I agree that Mondesi should bat 5th and Finley 6th.

Bob Brenley said that, had Raul arrived in time for Thursday's game, he'd be batting 5th. Then, in his first start, on Friday, Finley is still batting 5th and Mondesi 6th.

Twice in the first six innings, Finley ended the inning leaving Gonzo and Hillenbrand on base. Gonzo and Hillenbrand with four of our first five hits, and Finley leaves them stranded.

Then Mondesi leads off the following inning twice. We didn't sign Mondesi to leadoff!

Does JGjr have to put a bright ribbon on Mondesi for Brenly to bat him 5th, ahead of Finley?

If it's a lefty-righty thing, go with Hillenbrand/Gonzo/Mondesi/Finley 3-4-5-6. I like the idea of Shea batting 3rd, instead of cleanup, anyway.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

*** Regarding Craig Counsell, I was very concerned when he returned from injury. His batting stance was so exaggerated, stretching his arms painfully high over his head. It almost looked like an obsession!

But he's looked alot more relaxed at the plate during the past week. We need his ability to work the pitcher, find ways to get on base, and not be afraid of being up there with 2 strikes.

And it was his triple that led to our only run before the rain delay on Saturday.

As a follow-up, Brenly then told the Press that Mondesi is an ideal #6 hitter.

Then hit him #5 on Saturday, with Finley benched vs. the lefty.

"He's my #5 hitter" . . . then he hits sixth. "He's my #6 hitter" . . . then he hits fifth.

I can't see how Brenly's lack of discipline in setting batting orders is going to help his players fulfill their potential.

He's driving them freaking crazy. Them and me!

Typical BB doublespeak. If I remember correctly he was pretty adamant about Hillenbrand staying out of the cleanup spot when the D-Backs first acquired him.
If you’ll notice, often times when Brenly is explaining something to the press his head is shaking constantly. It's as if his head knows his brain is full of **** and has trouble going along w/ the lies. That's why I got a kick out of the Bob Brenly bobblehead doll. It's not just a promotional giveaway. It's a dramatic interpretation.

Counsell

I think I prefer Counsell at SS. Cintron seems to make too many errors there.
