The thread about Rod Graves got me thinking. Got nothing personal against the guy, but concerning football, there is reason to snicker and joke at his expense.

Now I respect those who frown upon such talk, no problem showing a little "higher class" so to speak.

Yet, I have no problem taking the low road every now and again for the sake of conversation and a laugh or to.

So lets see how some ex-Cardinals are doing.

I'll start. Where is Russ Grimm coaching next season?

Higher Authority....

I agree about not going after someone needlessly. The thing is the NFL is a business....And a very unique one at that in that you don't necessarily have to put a "winner" on the field to make $$. Crazy, I know. But, a team could do a lil' "window dresiing" each year so it seems like there's reason to give the fans a lil' hope...then sit back and get rich regardless. This is an injustice to the fans who simply want to win and are willing to pay their hard-earned $$ to come watch and be part of the excitement.

Graves to me, by all accounts, was a good PR man. That's it. The blame should not be laid at his door-step but on the owner above, Bill Sr. who watched and did nothing. Years ago, when the Cards were in St. Louis, George Boone did the drafting....It was beyond bad!! ...And yet, the old man, apparently out of loyalty, for his friend did nothing.

I am very thankful for all of our emotional well-beings that this nonsense now appears to be fading in the rear-view mirrow. I believe Mikey B. is serious about winning. ...And that is the beginning of anything good with any sports franchise.

Mark in SC :)

Whiz will never take over in SD.

Grimm is washed out, and rightfully so. He sucked so hard it made internet nerds google his name with a hand on their junk.

For all that is heaped on one Ken Whizenhunt, anyone heard from the players he "ruined", now that they are free from his tyranny ?

Matt Leinart ?

Beanie Wells ?

Tim Hightower?

I wonder if his mojo is powerful enough to stick the final fork in Philip Rivers. Or if Rivers has just enough Kurt Warner deep inside to shake it off and pull through.

Can't wait to see it personally.

Phillip Rivers is exactly what Whiz said he needed. Well, he has it, so lets see if he can back up his talk.

Let's see Phillip Rivers work "the system"

Whisenhunt & Graves had the Cardinals within 37 seconds of a Super Bowl victory. They couldn't sustain it, but at least they got us there.

As excited as I am about the SK-BA tandem, they still have to do it on the field. :)

Palmer here last year might have meant 12 wins and a playoff berth.

Whiz wasnt terrible. I still love the guy for giving me the best 2 years of cardinal football ive ever seen.

The worst was losing Don Coryell in 1977. 3 consecutive seasons with double digit victories, 2 division titles (the only ones they won in St. Louis), hadn't been to the playoffs prior to him since 1948 when they were the Chicago Cardinals. In 1975 they won 7 games in the last minute of the game. Goes to San Diego and becomes one of the most dynamic coaches in football. Groomed 3 HOF players in St. Louis (Dan Dierdorf, Roger Wehrli, Jackie Smith), another 3 in San Diego (Dan Fouts, Kellen Winslow, Fred Dean).

Still hasn't been inducted himself--an absolute joke. Changed the entire game of football on offense. First to move a TE in motion. First to use a WR bunch formation on one side of the formation. First coach to have a WR lead the league averaging 1,000 yard season in each of his first 3 years (John Jefferson); Wes Chandler still holds the record for receiving average per game over an entire year @ 129 yards per game. Record of 111-83-1, all while innovating the game.

Many of the best offensive minds in the game today are direct disciples of his offense.

Without him we're not watching the same game of football today.

Got a chuckle out of me on a couple of these, especially the Wendell Bryant joke.

Great Post.

Loved me some Coryell. The fact that Dollar Bill fired him is why I know he is a clueless owner.

agreed. I also appreciate Denny Green assembling most of that team. Then I hate the Graves/Whiz regime for nearly totally mishandling the personnel and dismantling the most successful squad we've ever had
Well Rivers is better than Palmer so we will see, now won't we.
kinda

(going off of last year's stats. Which I consider most important, as it's their most current form) he is and he isn't. Aside from total yards and yards/catch, Rivers wins every passing category, and edges out Palmer in Passer Rating (88.6 to 85.3). But his THIRTEEN fumbles is significantly worse than Palmer's 5, which is probably the main reason Palmer edged out Rivers in QB Rating (44.7 to 40.6)
I wonder if his mojo is powerful enough to stick the final fork in Philip Rivers. Or if Rivers has just enough Kurt Warner deep inside to shake it off and pull through.
Maybe Rivers will learn to throw with a glove under Whiz too lol. 13 fumbles last year is crazy
