No he doesn't as far as I know. I was just throwing some levity out there. My reference was only to the Cards players that never recovered. Bad joke, my appologies.

If it is as bad as you say it is I would put it your foot in a bucket of hot water or something while sitting...

Really??? Was it a release of the plantar fascia, which I have heard suggested before? From all I read, the surgery they have today is very iffy and has some bad potential long-term effects.

Yeah, it was the "release" surgery. I was off my feet for a couple weeks.

My doctor never mentioned possible bad side effects. He seemed very comfortable with the success ratio of the surgery. In fact, he told me he was teaching this technique to others. This was in the summer of 2001 and I have had no bad side effects. I buy shoes which compensate for my "over pronator" condition. (knock kneed) I also wear orthotics and I feel fine. If I stand in one spot too long then my feet begin to hurt (which the doctor warned me about). But that is all.

As far as some of the other fixes that I have read in this thread, I have tried them all. Soaking my feet in hot water (temp relief). Rest (again temp relief).
But, I think my condition may have been severe. I am usually pretty reluctant to go see a doctor and I waited till I could barely walk before I went. Now that I am past forty, I don't have that feeling of invincibilty anymore and I've changed my attitude about that. No more tough guy. :(

If nothing else is working and you've given it at least five or six months then I recommend the surgery.

Stout, good luck to you. This was far and away the most painful experience of my life. I have always enjoyed good health and this really frustrated me.

Groovy. Thanks, Brevity. I'm under military VA health coverage now (I have a 10 percent disability from hearing loss, so I get it for free when I have no other health care), so we'll have to see what they want to do.

Find a health club that has one and give it a try.

I think I had this last year when I was on vacation. It hurt like hell, and we were at freaking Six Flags Magic Mountain. Walking all day, and had to sit down every three minutes. Kept wanting to "stretch" the bottom of my foot out. It would hurt, but in a kind of good way? I dunno. It did seem to get better as they day wore on, but not by much. Eventually just went away.

I wonder if this isn't something that a cordisone shot won't take care of before games, though. If it's just stretching, is there any permanent damage that can be caused by numbing the pain before games?

Yes, cortisone shots are a common treatment method. They tried that on me, but they didn't work at all, though for some, they work to perfection. Only problem is, you need to get them often, if that's what works. Shots before a game for a pro athlete, if they work, should be fine and would allow him to keep going. It would just ruin him later on down the line in life, if he aggravates it but keeps plugging through.

The posted analysis of the problem doesn't suggest that. It sounds like it's just an annoying inflammation (like arthritis or something) that won't get worse without treatment. Maybe the summary just wasn't in depth enough, though.
