How about that? The New Orleans Saints are getting a compensatory pick in the 2025 NFL draft after all. Per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the NFL Management Council issued a memo on Friday correcting the 2025 draft order, which erroneously awarded the Miami Dolphins a seventh-round comp pick. Instead, that pick is going to the Saints, and ESPN's Katherine Terrell adds that it will slot in at No. 254 in this year's 257-pick event.
That isn't much, but it's better than nothing. Here's where the Saints picks now stand:
So how did this happen? When calculating all of the additions and subtractions in free agency from last offseason, the league office botched one crucial footnote. The Dolphins shortened their contract with wide receiver Cedrick Wilson Jr. by a year which allowed him to become a free agent and sign with the Saints. That's the same thing the Saints did with longtime offensive lineman Andrus Peat last year, which is why they didn't get a comp pick when he signed with the Las Vegas Raiders. So that's now been corrected.
Ironically, the Saints are getting a comp pick for a player who is already back on their roster. Yiadom signed with the San Francisco 49ers last offseason and did well enough on his contract to qualify for a seventh round comp pick. But San Francisco didn't re-sign him this spring, so he returned to New Orleans on a three-year deal. Maybe the Saints will have him introduce whoever they pick with the selection they got for losing him.
