Bash them all you want but they were still veteran top line players. Guys so good that they didn't last one day in free agency. I don't care how good you are and Whisenhunt is good you are going to have a tough time replacing 5 starters plus a key rotation player in one season.

Pace and Smith only lasted one day in free agency. We didn't even miss a beat. Remember all the moaning and crying?

I remember all the moaning and crying because the Cards couldn't stop Roethlisberger because we didn't have a decent outside pass rush. I remember the Cards using TWO draft picks last year trying to get a decent outside pass rush. I remember people crying and moaning all last season because we couldn't generate a decent pass rush because one of those two picks was on IR. That's what I remember.

We made the right move this offeason: extending Whiz. I wish Q were still with us, but I like the picks. I'll miss Rolle and Dansby, but our D did not defeat anyone. Anyone. The contracts these guys signed: if we paid that kind of money we'd have last year's defense at these prices. INSANE.

And we wouldn't have had those problems with Smith and Pace? They didn't exactly set the world on fire after they left here. And if our defense is so bad, why are you crying about us changing it up?

Days like today really really make me question my faith in this organization. Am I the only one who is gonna miss these guys? Rolle was so dangerous and versatile...worth 12 mil? No

Dansby played with broken shoulders, great guy on and off the field

Boldin, You can NOT replace that heart. He is a mans man. Im gonna miss him alot.

Not sure why but Ive just got this pit in my stomach that reminds me of 1999 after we dismantled the team ...or even after Jake, Boston, Rice left...

Whiz I trust you... Now dont let us down. This is more than just a game to alot of us here.

- Rolle was drafted as a #1 corner, he didn't make it. He is the highest paid safety in the NFL and he has never made the pro-bowl. He is an athlete without a position.

- Same with Dansby. Above average LB, but never made the pro-bowl. Not worth the money he got at all.

- Boldin, yes you can replace him. The Cards are so deep at WR that they did not miss a beat when he was out. Don't get me wrong, I wish Q the best of success and think he will be better as a number one option on the Ravens instead of a number two here.

Ken Whisenhunt is a smart, smart man. An engineer turned football guy. Best coach the Cards had since moving to AZ. I heard him speak once and here are his pillars:

1) Have a plan - win the division.
2) Experience success - once you get used to winning, it makes it easier to win more.
3) Competition - no position is a lock, you have to win it each year.
4) Teamwork - the team depends on everyone and you have to help out each other.

Whiz needs to put his recruiter hat on and try to lure Clark, Porter & either Foote or Witherspoon in.

If we can get 3 of those guys, draft Hughes, Spikes & Cam Thomas with our first 3 picks I easily forget Rolle & Dansby.

No.

Why do you think that Dansby and Boldin and Rolle were so terrible that it was absolutely necessary to get rid of them?

I had to edit this. 40, our defense is weak because the Cards let a good player go without having an adequate replacement for him (Pace) and your solution is to let more good players go that the Cards don't have adequate replacements for?

Pace has actually been playing damn good football for the Jets, both on and off the juice. Looking back on it, his loss was a big one for this D. Could rush the passer, decent run stuffer, athletic young kid on the outside.

Now I see why Warner retired. I think he saw this coming. Especially how they were handling Q. Both Warner and Fitz said they would give 1 mill a year to Boldin. If the Cards offered 6 and then you add the 2 more....8 million a year for 4 years is 32!! We would have kept him and maybe Warner would have stayed. I feel Warner saw the cracks in the armor and decided to bolt while he could. Now there are rumors(Very slim rumors) about him coming out of retirement to play for the Rams. People are asking why? Because the Rams might now be better than us. We have lost key players on an already bad defense. And Now lose a ALL pro reciever for basically a 3rd round pick. The Cardinals will never change. And history repeats itself. It is 98 all over again.

Suicide watch for you. But there is hope since there is so much misinformation in your post.
Yes KW offered a mil of his if the Cards redid Q's contract. Fitz never offered a dollar amount and simply responded to a question if he would restructure his contract to help with Q's contract. So all the calculations you do for 2 more 8 mil is just not accurate.
The "rumor" that KW is going to the Rams is simply the dumbest hoax and I was amazed anyone paid any attention to it. So any conclusions you may draw from that are worthless.
KW retired because it was the right time for him. Unlike Favre KW knows when it's time.
If you can't see the Cards have changed then .....well I don't know what to say. Maybe it's the battered spouse syndrome of being a Cards fan for many years.

I am very surprised by Pace and how well he has done for the Jets. At the time he left and the money he wanted there was no way I was in favor of keeping him.

Pace finally found the right position/ system for him in his last year as a Cardinal.

The key mistake the Cardinals made was essentially choosing Chike over Pace

A "key mistake" if you simply ignore the context under which it was made. I liked PACE, and wanted him on this team, but the $22M he received in guarantees from the Jets was simply too rich and unacceptable at the time.

Great post!

To much revisionist history going on around here.

Until about 2/3rds of the way through his only season of contribution most on this board thought of him as a huge bust and couldn't wait till he was out of here.

Some, not many, started to come around on him towards the end of the season and realize that he had value. When he signed with the Jets the consensus was that he was overpaid and that the Jets were fools.

We often undervalue guys who may just be coming into their own and overvalued guys who have already reached their peak and have no where to go but down.

I don't see either Rolle or Dansby exceeding their production here by much if any at all. They have showed what they are or aren't.

By the same token Rashad Johnson may still be a year or two away like Calvin Pace was in his career with the Cards.

We have bought some time at the FS position with Rhodes to find out if Johnson can have the production Pace turned out to have after several years in the league.

Pace was just a guy like Leonard Davis who the Cards drafted too high and then played out of position. At least they had talent though unlike a lot of guys the Cards drafted back then who not only were taken too high but couldn't play any position.

I'll take Foote or Witherspoon....but won't cry if neither come here.....too many good ILB's in the draft.
