I liked it, but not as much as this guy:

The most spectacular and intriguing sci-fi action film since the 'Star Wars' trilogy.

I'll bet you liked Armageddon too.

Call me a grump but I didn't get the infatuation with Liv Tyler back then, and I dont get it 15 years later.

I'm sure she's a nice person and everything but she has like 0 appeal to me from an actress standpoint. She looks like her father (not something that really "does it" for me) and she's not a very good actress.

Even as a teenager though I didn't think Armageddon was as dumb as ID4 though. I was so excited for that movie to come out and then it was just dumb. Even in my younger years I was like "uhh these aliens with all their advanced technologies you'd think they'd have a firewall and some viris software." and "Uhhhh, normal people cant fly fighter jets."

I'm just sayin. I actually thought the first half of independence day was good, it was all the stuff in the climax that bored me to tears. (that's what she said) :)

You bet I did...it was tons better than Tango & Cash!

I'm pretty consistent, give me good mindless action and I'm a happy camper. I know the science was incredibly bad in Armageddon but I slept through my Physics class so it was no big deal to me. I could have done without some of the cheesy lines though. I always thought the Starship Troopers line of "It's alright because I got to have you, Johnny" was near the bottom but Armageddon's "Requesting permission to shake the hand of the daughter of the bravest man I ever met" sunk even lower. Still, it wouldnt be a classic action flick without a bad line or two. I never tire of hearing Arnie say "I let him go".

that line was horrendously bad. Armageddon was ok - what annoyed me was every single dramatic point was overdrawn (but worked out in the end) - that was a little too much for me. Just push the damn button...

Of that summer's meteor/comet flicks, I liked Deep Impact better.

then again, of 1997's Volcano movies, I prefered Dante's Peak to Volcano

What?! A mis-matched pair of 1980's cops who foil a drug baron through unconventional means? One of the best "bad" movies ever!!!

ok Ok OK...you have succeeded in your 7 year quest...I will watch Tango & Cash with fresh eyes!

My only problem will be convincing the wife to watch it with me...

I've tried watching that on multiple occasions...I always fall asleep during the scene in the White House basement with all the cases of Ensure.

It doesn't have the non-stop action - it actually has a plot, and was more scientifically accurate. Those are the things I enjoyed - as well as the actual "reporting" on the event.

I'm not saying it was bad...I like the short amount of it that I've actually seen. I think that there's a subliminal message in there that puts me to sleep.

the film made famous the phrase FUBAR. For that alone, it's one of the greatest movies of all time.

"Ray Tango... Gabrielle Cash... if it isn't Cash, it's Tango! If it isn't Tango, it's Cash!" - Jack Palance

one of my favorite lines ever.

Having used FUBAR on many an occasion long before that movie, I'd never really given that any thought. It probably popularized it in the civilian world but I think you'll find that those of us with a military background already considered it a "famous" word. I can't remember going a full week in the army without hearing someone use FUBAR or it's close relative SNAFU.

I always loved the fact that the Aliens were also running Windows.

It dates back to 1944.

I remember family and friends who were in the military using it as well as some local radio hosts long before 1989.
