A well-informed polish NBA fan's opinion about Trybanski:

"It will be my pleasure hcilla. Sorry to (maybe) disappoint you but Trybanski is nothing, really NOTHING special.
A couple of years back, when I was on a verge of playing pro bball in Poland I played a couple of times against him. Yes, maybe he has the basketball basics and size, but he moves slowly, he's skinny, he rebounds and blocks shoots poorly.
He played I think two seasons for a medicore team in the polish league. And he saw there just garbage minutes. His stats were typical for a garbage man - around 4 ppg plus 3 rpg. And suddenly, when noone expected he signed a contract in Memphis. For me it just shows how important your agent is. Lampe - much better player with much worse agent slipped to the second round of the draft and an almost completely unknown player signs a contract for 5 mln. There were big stories in polish newspapers after that. And how he played during last season? 15 games, 0.9 ppg and 0.9 rpg... The stats speak for themselves.
During the offseason he played a couple of games for the polish national team. And there were plenty of better players than him. He still shows inconsistency, he's still very lanky and is pushed under the basket a lot.
Once again sorry to disappoint you, but don't expect much from Tryb."

He'll be cut! We'll pare away his salary, too. Or he will be trade fodder as he was coming over here! :D

What about him looks promising from those photos? I would hope that any seven-footer can dunk, and his arms are no bigger around than mine.

He seems to have very long arms and it looks like he dunks with ease compared to Big Jake bringing the ball down to his knees before "trying" to dunk.

He's higher than Jake ever got in that one picture.

Actually, he looks fairly athletic for a 7-2 player.

Don't forget how poor the Europeans are at developing and evaluating their own talent (sorry Stef).

There's room for a glimmer of hope.

I'm not going out to buy a Trybansky jersey any time soon, though.

The problem is that Trybanski wasn't a talent at all.
Only Jerry West seemed to miss that fact.

Jerry West can't have been the only one. He wouldn't give him 3yrs/5M$ if he was the only one who thought he could end up being a good player.

If he just saw talent and was the only one he would have given him 2 years minimum partially guaranteed or something like that.

Come on now. Slin's friend gives us a negative report on a guy we really know nothing about, and so he wasn't a talent at all? I do think Jerry West's genius is overrated, but he must have seen something to give Trybanski that contract. Or do you think West just owed Trybanski's agent a favor?

Who the heck cares about Trybanski? The trade was made to clear some cap room. There isn't any playing time for him here anyway. He'll come down with some back spasms and sit on IR all year.

There is plenty of playing time available here for any competent center. If he turns out not to suck, he will get a chance to play.

Don’t hold your breath, though. Even the positive scouting reports on him describe him as a raw talent in need of skill development. If we see any quality play from him, it probably won’t be until near the end of this season, at the earliest.

I don't mean that he won't get a chance to play. What I mean is that there is no playing time designated for him. If he turns out to be a "competent center" then for all means Frank will make time for him. I don't think the Suns will play with a designated center 48 minutes a game. I'm guessing maybe a little more than half the game, depending on who we play. The rest of the time we will be playing with an extra guard or forward.

My feeling on this trade is that we only took him because Memphis wanted us to take on his guaranteed contract. Our main goal was to lose Outlaw's 5.6MM next year.
