the entire thing is pretty good -- and just to head off a response: i dont think injuries were the Cardinals only problem last year, but i think its clear they were a factor.

Overall -- the Cards tied for 27th (with TB) with 114 adjusted games lost in 2022.

the offense suffered the most: the Cards finished 30th with 79.4 adjusted games lost on that side of the ball.

FWIW:

the Eagles and Chiefs finished 3rd and 4th respectively overall with the fewest adjusted games lost. A good roster + good health sure seems like a ticket to a deep playoff run.

supporting the "injuries weren't their only problem": three teams in the bottom 10 or so made the playoffs-- Tampa, NY Giants, and SF.

one last thing:

  • Denver has ranked in the bottom 10 for AGL for four straight seasons.
  • Arizona has ranked below 20th in AGL for seven straight seasons.
  • Washington has ranked below 20th in AGL for nine straight seasons.
  • San Francisco has ranked below 20th in AGL for a remarkable 10 straight seasons.

Injuries hurt. But injuries to a less talented roster hurt much more. Need depth to withstand injuries and to create competition. Kiem = addition by subtraction
