Heh heh - start a new spat maybe... do we really need another lefty specialist? Does anybody believe in such beasties, other than Joe? Reportedly BoMel is not impressed with them; said something like 'righty, lefty, doesn't matter - I go with the guy who's got the best record of getting the out.'

Also sounds like Hammock sort of screwed himself a bit by putting off the shoulder surgery - could have been on the DL and not count against the 40 man roster and thus maybe not get released - but now he does it, and he's pretty much cooked for this season. That'll make a major league comeback a tad more iffy since he was marginal to begin with. The career planning seems a little weak, you know?

I like hearing that from Melvin. The only caveat is I'd prefer "outs" to "out" singular.

My pet peeve with managers is when they play reliever Russian Roulette. Brenly was particularly bad at doing this. I hate it when they go through 3 relievers an inning or use 1 pitcher for the 7th, 1 for the 8th, 1 for the 9th.

I think this tends to lead to more injury/fatigue in relievers. I'd rather see one reliever pitching a couple of innings, then not pitch the next day than have every reliever in your pen pitch 2 or 3 days in a row.

First, the constant warming up and use every day is, I believe, harder on the arm. Second, it gives the other team too many looks at your pen. By the last game of a 3 or 4 game series, if they've seen every pitcher in your pen a couple of times they know what to expect. Third, I call it Russian roulette to go through several relievers in the same game, because the more shots you fire, the more likely you are to find the reliever who is the bullet that is going to blow you up.

If a reliever is pitching good and getting guys out, why take him out to get the lefty/righty matchup? Drives me crazy.
