Stout, you have reinforced my point, that to Paterno his FIRST responsibility is to help boys become men, a winning football team is secondary.

I happen to agree with his philosophy, as it pertains to COLLEGE sports.

With respect to Larry Johnson, he obviously has the POTENTIAL to be a great NFL back. Will he become one??? Who knows! If anyone could accurately predict that about any athlete, they would be better off using that skill for a living than debating in this forum.

The guy from my school will kick ass!

The guy from your school will suck!

This is a meaningless waste of time argument if I have ever heard one. Please get back to work, no wonder our economy is weak.

Boy, that is playing it safe. He sure left himself an escape route no matter what happens with Simms.

It's interesting that Tank Williams didn't make that list. That kid can flat out play! He's kinda small, kinda slow, but he is a football player and IMO, will turn out to be a good pro. He's the kinda guy to love to root for, the underdog, kinda like Shipp. He's also the kinda guy you want on your team. I'd take him as soon as the 5th round. He'll probably be there later, but I wouldn't want to risk it.

please please please anybody but Chrisy...

I live in Oklahoma City and this guy has been front and center on the football scene around here for four years. Let me assure you, not only does he stink, but he is also a negative sound bite machine.

For example, about half way through his junior year it came to light that he was making a "list". The "list" included everyone that had been "unfair" to him during his tenure as TX quarterback and he was "going to get them" for being "unfair".

have you ever heard of anything so ridiculous? so childish?

that was the year he threw three interceptions against OU and was posterized by Roy Williams in the TX endzone in a play that sealed a 14-3 TX loss.

His arm is overrated, his intelligence is overrated, and his poise, pocket presence, leadership and mobility are all definitely overrated.

I'll give it up to TX players when they are good, but simms is awful. If we use a draft choice on him it will be a complete and total waste.

Is this who you are talking about?

or

Are you talking about DT Tank Reese from Kansas State?

Tank Reese is a rookie free agent, who at best is going in the later rounds. At best he is a 7th rounder imo. Kind of like Adams of PSU. He really is a below average prospect. His size limitations will hurt him a lot against the upper echelon NFL players. He is so small that guys like Larry Allen and other good guards would thoroughly dominate him. Leverage is such an important aspect of line play. Taller guards (6'3+) would be 5-8 inches taller than him. If you take him even in the sixth, you might raise some eye brows.

That said, if he were a rookie free agent, I would be on the phone with him immediately. I have always liked rookie free agents a lot, especially guys like Lassiter, Shipp, Lucas, McKinnon. As bad as this team has been at acquiring players through the draft, this team has really been pretty good at finding undrafted gems.

In my first paragraph I was talking about the very first post in this thread. Bach pasted an article and the author said something like "if simms gets in the right style offense with the right OC, he will be a pro-bowl QB." I was just stating that that is very safe to say cause no matter what happens you can make a case for yourself. LOL.

The second paragraph was a seperate thought. I was just saying that I think Tank Reese will be a good player. I understand that you there are reasons people are projected to be low rounders, but every year there are players that come from the low rounds or may even be undrafted FA's that are quality NFL starters. I really think Reese will be one of those players. Thats why I said I'd be ok with using a 5th or 6th rounder on him.

Yea sorry, I meant Tank Reese, not Williams. Brain fart. How many "Tank's" have you heard of in your life? LOL

LOL. I thought that was pretty funny also!

I read your post and then I thought, "Hey wait isn't Tank Williams the safety from Stanford drafted last year?"

Tank Reese was a fun player to watch, and I hope he can keep it going at the next level...you never know in this league. If he can overcome the size/strength difference in the NFL, he could make it.

I'm just trying to fight the 'the guy from your school will suck' trend on poor LJ. He doesn't deserve to be compared to the other backs just because they went to the same school. Yes, others will say they were all 'system' backs, but since our offensive 'system' has almost done a complete turnaround in the last several years, that label no longer applies.

I'm not saying he's great. I'm saying he's got potential. I'm refusing to (and arguing against anyone) naysaying his potential on ancient frickin' history.
