I'm curious as well. Most successful O-D switch I've seen recently is Richard Sherman from WR to CB (though it happened in college). Ironic they have the same last name. Would love to see it here. But Sherman IS a great FB. I also like Lenon. He's old but still does a hell of a job. As long as he keeps it up, I don't care how old he is

Re: Lenon

He may not fit the new coordinators scheme, and maybe Bradley gets out of the doghouse. We need someone next to Wash who is stout against the run.

Heaven forbid we crawl out of our comfort zone and actually try something innovative.:bang:

It's a reaction to a very, very common ASFN compulsion: thinking that players in one position would really be much better at another-- often a fairly significant switch ( I.e. we aren't talking cb to safety, or tackle to guard )

We have been trying to make Adrian Wilson, a safety who has been to multiple pro bowls at the position, a linebacker for years ( as an example).

Roy Green made the switch quite successfully. If they had done it earlier in his career think how much more productive his career would have been.

It might be interesting to take a look at Sherman at SILB---he's an instinctive and physical tackler.

It depends on whether or not you believe that defense is a life style choice as apposed to something your born into. I personally believe that you are born one way or the other.

The idea in not using a FB is deception. The defense doesn't know exactly what's coming, therefore creating confusion. Seeing our RBs get hit at or behind the line of scrimmage due to predictable calls and formations is silly. I like the fact that we will have more flexibility by using multiple TE / HB sets. It's just smart football!
I would think it would help disguise protection schemes as well. When they see you line up with 2 TEs and 1 RB they don't know which of those players if any will stay back in protection or go out into patterns. It also allows for an easy protection audibles depending on what the defense is showing as far as where they might be bringing pressure from.
