Here's a thought. Had the Cowboys known Laboy was hurt they certainly wouldn't have spiked the ball. They would have ran a free play. They could have went to the end zone.
How crappy would that have been?

But there was only like 4 seconds left on the clock. They had to spike it.
I don't remember if they had any timeouts left.

Regardless, what should have happened was a timeout called from the sidelines right before the Cowboys got the snap off, avoiding the penalty and still running almost all the time off the clock.

That is ridiculous. Where do you come up with this stuff? During a Rams timeout?

Whisenhunt on the radio this morning said he had no idea LaBoy was down there or he would've called a timeout.

Yup. Ridiculous, Duckjake. ;)

If they'd had any timeouts, they would have called one. And as Fiasco said, the game can't end on a defensive penalty. They could have taken the shot to the endzone, and regardless of what happened, could have moved the ball five yards closer for the FG try even if there was no time left on the clock.

Would've sucked.

Wrong, the refs do not call a timeout in that situation. The only time the refs calls an injury timeout is when the player stays on the ground and has to have a trainer come to his aid. It is why you see players try to hobble off the field only to be told by teammates to fall to the ground. If Laboy was injured he should have stayed or laid on the ground on the ground and he would have got the timeout call. Refs do not call injury timeouts for players limping off the field, they never have.

It was without a doubt the right call to make and the penalty was the fault of Laboy for not knowing this and for the coaching staff for not calling a timeout. It is why the booth called for a review to see if Laboy was laying on the ground or not.

I agree that's the normal way such a play occurs. In this case though I don't think any refs saw LaBoy, if they did, why did they wait until well after the play to call it when the Dallas players were literally coming off the sideline onto the field pointing at LaBoy?

I don't think either our bench or the refs knew LaBoy was there, so falling down wouldn't have helped him get seen.

Just a crazy play but there has to be some sort of decision and you just know with us, the decision will hurt us and benefit the opponent. But we still won and that's all that I care about.

Hell, the referee crew for the Panther game is already calling penalties on the Cardinals and that game doesn't happen until after the bye week.

I think the NFL Rule Book contains some small print with footnotes that allows only certain penalities to be "tried out" when the Cardinals are playing...

But that is why they reviewed the play, to see if he was walking off the field or laying down on the field. So he still would have been seen because of the review.

I maybe wrong, but I thought they couldn't review a penalty. And if thats the case what were they looking at? The only thing that I think they could look at was the time left on the clock. Strange play to say the least.

Thats what pissed me off more than anything, The refs NEVER saw Laboy and only threw the flag after they were informed of it, So I guess players and the bench can now pick up the refs slack eh?

"Umm ref, the CB was holding me on my last route"

"You don't say Larry?, well thanks for letting me know, I must have missed it" *throws flag*
