I have a video ipod, but I just bought a zune from woot.com for 99 bucks. I'm kind of excited to see which one I like better. I'm in love with my ipod, so the zune's already got a rough road ahead (perhaps an eBay destiny)

Ummm, no. Call me if you want to get rid of it.

If you want, I definitely will.

I didnt mean to come off as "I purchased a $99 item just so I could test it out, I have an Ipod, blah blah blah" type snob. This purchase went straight to credit card, and probably shouldn't have even been made. I have very little self control when it comes to internet shopping/deals/music players.

You weren't sounding like a snob at all. I'm in the same boat you're in when it comes to exhibiting restraint. Fortunately? I'm broke & have no credit cards, so I wasn't able to purchase one right now.

If you want to talk about restraint, I bought a black zune to go with my white zune. I seriously considered buying a brown one too.

Once you download the music does it have an expiration date?

Is it on your computer and your Zune?

I made a bonehead move and dropped my ipod in the pool 2 weeks ago. I gave it time to dry and tried every trouble-shooting procedure I could find, but it's toast.

Now I'm trying to decide between another ipod or a zune. I don't watch any video. I listen to a lot of books and podcasts, and listen to music when I'm working out.

I'm thinking of trying a zune because I would be able to download books directly from the library website, as opposed to checking out the cd's and having to copy them to itunes.

Does anybody have some updated advice on these two products? Thanks.

Get a Zune. :jedi:

We've got a 30 GB we use when we travel.

They just released the 120 GB version.

They just updated the firmware. Now you can download or just listen to songs through WiFi.

Picked up an iPod Touch 2G from Craigslist for $170. New, unopened. If you've ever wanted to get one, now is the time. People have been getting them for free when buying a Macbook. $170 is a great deal. Almost $80 off retail after tax.

I've heard that the 3G will be coming out in Sept and may feature a camera + mic. (Making it perfect as a VOIP device.) If true, I may have to sell this for $160 or so and upgrade.

Love it so far. It does everything + more. Especially if you decide to jailbreak it.

This is going to get very exciting in the coming months. This is all about cross sell opportunities and integration to drive you to those products. Look at what adding Netflix did. Xbox live has driven over one million users to Netflix online. In return, Netflix is using those traffic numbers to convince studios to allow them to release more streaming content.

Zune HD could be huge for both Zune and Xbox. All MS has to do is get a fraction of it's 20 million users to go and buy one. If MS is smart they will give discounts to XBOX Live gold members to convince them to pick one up.

The only thing that would be missing is a unified store front for Music, movies and Applications (like the Itunes Store) for Zune HD users that don't have XBOX LIVE. The rest of us who do have live can either use the Microsoft store or simpley plug in a Zune HD and use the Xbox Live interface. The best of both worlds.

Microsoft is working on that too.

Windows App Store

I think it will be huge if you can buy all your music, video and application for your Zune HD (and Windows Mobile enable Cell phones) all in one place. Much like Apples IPhone, you better believe that games on the Zune HD and Windows Mobile platforms will be a big part of the push.

The icing on the cake will be the Microsoft Retail stores that will push their integrated products that will compete with the Apple Stores.

I love this mainly becuase competition is good in the market place and Apple has been by far the dominate player in music players and online music sales.

New Zune HD seems to be getting fantastic reviews. I might need to get one now.
