Sounds like Marvel is back to ruining another franchise.

I think it's too early for that kind of speculation. Marvel is trying to do something really unheard of heretofore in film in recreating their universe for the silver screen. I imagine it's quite a challenge to get to all work, and if you've got someone that's not going to play along, they probably ought not be a part of it.

I like Favreau. He did a GREAT job with the Iron Man movies. But to say that his departure ruins the franchise when there's not even been a hint of who might be helming the next film or what it's about is the definition of a knee-jerk reaction, IMO.

Yep, just like Spiderman each is not much different than the one before it, except just enough to make it worse.
Just for the record, each of those had the same director we all loved for the franchise, right? You're right that SM has been in decline since the first film, but it's not apples to apples when comparing it to the departure of Favreau.

Again, JMHO.

Yep, all opinions. I just don't really like the Iron Man movies as much as I dug the comics themselves. I guess I just prefer the darkness of the the recent Batman shows.

As far as I'm concerned, Iron Man 2 wasn't a step in the right direction. Essentially the same movie as part one. Maybe they need a fresher perspective.

Um, huh? The 2nd movie was very different from the 1st movie. So much so that people that can't handle a movie that goes 'bang' every 3 seconds hated the 2nd one, because it leaned much more heavily to storytelling. I'm not sure how the 1st one, which was more heavy on action is essentially the same as the 2nd one, which was more heavy on story.

What are you talking about? The 3rd act is almost exactly the same!

I got the same feeling with Iron Man 2 that I got with Superman Returns--which was essentially a remake of the original movie.

Iron Man 2 had one thing going for it that was different from 1--Scarlett. ;)

i don't know if i agree that the 2nd was the same as the first story wise, but i thought it was a HUGE step back. It was just muddied and boring. Loved the first, second, just blegh.

We probably disagree on the why and how of the second movie, but I think we're in 100% agreement that 2 was not nearly as good as 1. (It's no Transformers 2, though) :)

So true. Tran2 was much better. I didn't even bother watching the last half of Fe Man 2z

I wouldn't be surprised if this next film takes on a little darker edge to it. They've got to really tackle Stark's alcoholism soon.
