It's in his best interest to leave. Irsay has gutted the team - the GM, Asst GM, coaches, etc. All those that offered stability to Peyton moving forward are no longer employed by the organization.

Agreed. This invitation of Irsay's sounds about as genuine as TO saying that
he is all about being a good team mate, and not about promoting his self-interests.

What was he going to say? I mean now that he might be healthy and is going to come back. If Irsay just cuts him the fans would revolt. I think Irsay knows Manning won't and can't stay, and he is trying to make it look like Manning wants to leave.

Oh, so nice of you, Mr. Irsay  Luck's already said he wants to start day 1, and I think the Colts want that too. No way Manning stays in Indy.

Game of chess. Irsay just put Manning in Check.

Not matter what happens irsay wins in this situation. Its either he gets Peyton Manning for less money, or if he leaves he tells the fans he wanted to leave.

Its either he sacrifices his queen and play for the colts, or lets irsay put him in checkmate and demand a release.

Wasn't Irsay on Thursday night football awhile back saying it wasn't about money, was a health issue, and Manning was like family? Turns out it is about money and Manning can be a family member for the right price and cap friendly contract.

“I want him to be able to make the choice. We would love to have him back here if he can get healthy and we can look at doing a contract that reflects the uncertainty of the . . . healing process with the regeneration of the nerve.’’

This is Irsay covering his backside with the fans. He is trying to spin it to say look we want Manning back as long as he is agreeable to a new contract without the huge bonus money and if Manning doesn't agree to a new re-structured contract then it was his decision not to stay in Indianapolis. We tried we really really tried to keep him here, it was all Peyton's doing to move on.

Spoken like a true politician. Don't blame me if it doesn't work out statement.

Wasn't Irsay that also told Manning to "Keep all comments in house". In other words to keep you mouth shut. Now we throws Manning under the Bus. What a hypocite.

It works well. Just look at Jamir Miller, Antrell Rolle, Karlos Dansby et al. Most fans go along with the team in these situations in that it was the players decision to leave and not that it was the teams decision to not come up with the money to keep them. Unfortunately, losing players over money is an all too common occurrence with free agency.

If anyone is deserving of that money it is Peyton. Almost single handedly he has turned that franchise and city around and made Irsay a very rich man and a new palace to play in.

I know its a business, but sheesh.

I totally agree...Irsay says one thing one day & one thing on another about the situation. Irsays comments can't be sitting well with Peyton. Manning is finished in Indy & everyone knows it!

if i were manning i'd power play right back.

"i was drafted by the colts. have played my whole career here. have brought prosperity to the team. a superbowl to the team. our success has resulted in a new arena. i signed a contract with the team and i'm willing, and want, to honor it. i will report for all team-related activities and look forward to winning with the colts."

he's under contract. force irsay to cut him. then all peyton has to say is:

"we negotiated a contract. i was ready to honor that contract and continue to play for the fans i've always loved. irsay cut me."

Such a weak PR move. Puts it back in Manning's court now. Manning's leaving, there's no doubt about that now, they're just trying to figure out who gets the blame for it. Irsay is a class A butthole frankly. If not for Manning they wouldn't even have the stadium or the SB this past year. Irsay's just a punk.

Agreed. If I were Payton I would say thankyou Mr. Irsay I appreciate you having a place for me. I look forward to donating 2.8M of the bonus I will be getting next month to the following Indianapolis area charities. Irsay is really a hypicrite and stupid to engage in a PR battle in the media after telling Payton not to. Luck will fill seats just shut up and release him and move on. It's like the dude in highschool who breaks up with the girl but isn't man enough to move on so he keeps hanging with her and spinning his reputation with all her friends.
