Doug, it's a saying. Nothing more.

As for Favre, I think he's proven that he can do more than just hang-on in the NFL. He's still playing at a pretty high level and I think that's pretty amazing...so, I say good for him. If he wants to continue doing what he loves, so be it. We should all be so lucky.

I'm sure every quarterback in the NFL would take 12 Million to play behind the best offensive line and have the most talented recievers and an awesome tight end and two not one running back behind you.One that already has a superbowl ring and the other running back was the offensive rookie of the year, and possibly the Best if not at least the second best Running back in the whole NFL.

Then add to that the defense that has talents and players that have the most representatives in the Pro Bowl than any other team in the NFL.Most of us here know the players as we dominated this team at UOP with Warner and a great defensive scheme that had favre fooled.

favre wanted revenge on the front office of the Packers twice in one year.He hated being told he could'nt play for the vikes when the Packers wanted to go with a younger and more talented quarterback but a beat up defense. So Brett played half a year for the Jets and then quit on the team as his arm went south, without telling the team.

So he retires again and cries again when he leaves the Jets and does'nt practice all offseason but with a few Jr. High school kids.Gets his arm surgery so he misses all of the off season and almost all of pre-season.Steps in with one of his old offensive past coaches and luckily they call the same system and plays right away.

The pass protection from day one with one of the best offensive lines ever. Can use the running game as the Major threat to allow Brett to use playaction from game one.

One of the best playaction qb's of alltime has his best yardage year of his career with only 7 ints. all season as there is never a reason to force anything except for the 2 interceptions he threw against the CARDINALS.

Now in only my personal opinion he is drawing too much attention of any past qb in my almost 60 years of watching unto himself and his 19 year career.Unitas would be sick if he had to watch this.Gabriel I know is sick of it.Its not neccesary enough attention from Madden on down has been given to favre in Shiploads.

Many qb's could of had the same success.Don't make me create the long list.I just think the saints and Drew Brees are better as the CARDINALS were at home.Homedome would'nt even have saved the vikes in this game.Yet the Colts and Manning would have Beaten them too,as they'll beat the tough front lines of the Jets and a great rookie rb in Greene from Iowa I begged for all season for us to get.Not believing Beanie would fall to us.My posts are documented.

The most talented duo of defensive ends in Freeney & Mathis will scare the Jets rookie qb into many mistakes. As they beat the CARDINALS so long ago on a Sunday night when we did'nt give our OT's any help in protection and the first signs of our Super Weak pass defense showed thier ugly head.

Now we'll have to watch the favre retirement again, and wonder if its real or not.I'm past tired of it.No SB for Brett even though I think Warner could have done it in the same situation.JMPHO

As always, Doug, you make some good points and a strong argument.

Then don't spend so many brain cells on it.

Please don't ever offer me advice.Don't need it from ya.Okay? This is a message board where you can come to explain your points in full as I have here and shown I'm not a HATER as that term is thrown around too much and did'nt represent what I was trying to say.

So once again I was forced to explain in detail why I posted what I did.Now your telling me not to make myself totally clear. You've never said 2 nice words to me since I made my first post here. You have attacked me over the season kinda regularly.

Its become obvious you want something different here than what I've wanted here.

I'm probably twice your age.I do know of what I'm talking about.Sorry we can't be friends.:(

Started noticing lots of excuses from lots of vikes players recently. Now Harvin is saying his migraines are coming back.Maybe he is.I just think favre is gonna have a migraine when Sundy night comes & he'll be back doing Wrangler old man jeans commercials.I can flip channels when that happens.:D

Doug, that is absolutely not true. My posts are documented.

Even in this thread I have not been unkind.

I am psychic. Farve( if he can't pronounce his own name , the way it is spelled, I will) win or lose, and hopefully lose, will immediately go into his retirement monologue. He will get all teary eyed and weepy. Then he will play the will I or won't I drama come next summer.

I am way past tired of this hick.

Contrary to the rest of the posts, I still enjoy a great player who knows how to rise up during great games. Today's Vikings/Saints game has enough storylines to make it a classic. Let's hope the participants deliver.

Don't forget that the Vikings have a D.

I think people forget that these icons of the game like Favre are people with doubts, indecisiveness, regrets and motivations for doing what they do beyond just trying to please fans.

I completely understand why people are sick of seeing him--the media has overexposed him perhaps more than any other professional athlete in history. But I don't understand why people feel the need to disparage him as a person and for his play. He's proven this year that he's NOT over the hill, washed up, finished, or whatever euphamism people wanted to hang on him for being unable to play as a starter in the NFL. He's also just a man who for the entirety of his life has been playing QB better than most every one of his peers, and when the time arrived that people thought he should be retiring he wrestled with it--a very human thing to do, IMO. Was he too wishy-washing about it? Yeah, probably. But I don't think he deserves to be demonized for it.

Could other starting NFL QBs do what he's done this season? Of course they could, but that's the point--Favre is still playing like an NFL QB. The pre-season rumors of his demise by fans like those on this thread have been greatly exaggerated. The Vikings didn't just sign a name, they signed a QB that helped them get at least to the NFC championship game.

I think it's pretty amazing to see a 40 year old QB play at this level--even if it's not the level he played at 10 years ago, it's still pretty good. It's still pretty obvious that he's having fun. It's still pretty obvious that he's helping that Vikings team win. ...even if he is overexposed in the media.

Now, I know I'm only 37 -- and some people seem to think my opinion about the NFL isn't as valid for that reason -- but there it is.

As usual, the truth of this matter lies somewhere in the middle... Favre played his whole reitrement gig out to the hilt... the media devoured and overexposed it...
The biggest problem I have is that he came back to the Vikes. It'a a free world and all that, blah, blah, blah... I'm not even a Packer fan, but it seems so carefully contrived. But hey, he did put up the TD's and the W's this season. At a rate no other 40 year old QB ever has. That's cool... Still, I hope he receives a major New Orleans beat-down today! ;)

Do you think he would have gone to the vikes if they weren't preceieved to only be a QB away from a championship? Or, for example, do you think if the Bucs had one of the best defenses, best OLs and best RB in the NFL that he would have gone there?

I think 5 parts football circumstance 1 part "revenge" that he went to the vikings. He went to the best team that would have him. He came back to try and win another title. It's gravy for him that he gets to play against the team that gave him his walking papers (which I also think was warranted).

I think he went to the Vikings for two reasons: 1) they were pretty clearly a QB away from being a very good team and 2) Favre's QB coach for 4 years a the Packers went on to be the Vikings O.C. He was probably fairly comfortable they would have a system he could work with -- besides he had Adrian Peterson and didn't have to do all the work himself.

The better question would be who isn't Favred out? He does feed the frenzy some what but I blame the media far more the Farve. The NFL wants their players to talk to the media. Favre does a very good job of this. Does he enjoy it? I don't know and really don't care, he is doing his job.
No reason to hate him, we have plenty of PacMans & TO's to hate if you have that need.

Could'nt agree more.Love the New Orleans story much more and they deserve a championship if they can play like we did when THE CARDINALS beat the favre led vikes in the UOP Stadium.Yet that team in New Orleans handed it to us pretty good, even though we were beat up and tired from a previous war the week before. No excuses. The better team will win today and then we'll see the drama end or start all over again with brett losing two NFC CHAMPIONSHIPS in a row to close out his NFL career.

I don't hate the guy at all.I just don't think he has any humility as he has played 19 years and thinks all the records he holds for longevity outweigh the other Great qb's that came before and during his play. You've never heard him talk about those guys.I guess because I'm old and know all about those guys is why I stand up for them. Most here are too young to even remember them.Yet they played as well or better than mr.favre.

I also remember a divisional playoff game with Kurt Warner and favre threw 6 interceptions in that game for the packers.Brett isn't as good as the chances he's had to prove he is the best of all time.Which he thinks he is.

I repeat,I don't hate the guy at all. He's one of the best ever. Just not the best ever. I guess thats why I gravitated to Kurt Warner so easy as he is the most humble of all the quarterbacks of today alongside maybe a Phil Simms who played till he was 39 also_Otto Graham would have taken this Vikings team today to a perfect season with the abilities that no one today watching the NFL has ever seen.It might even make some laugh to hear that but you have'nt seen it all in your lifetime,I assure you and Johnny Unitas was also one that could have done it too. What real leadership they provided.

It is sad that the vikes have Childress as head coach and main play caller also.Even though favre changes lots of his plays and they argue tons about it.May even prevent another chance for favre to try again next year with all the weapons any qb in the league with skill could have won with. The vikes have a great "D" coordinator that has'nt been given a fair shake in landing a head coaching job and one day he'll be given that opportunity and he'll succeed.

Favre loved the opportunity to stick it to his past owners and coaches and people who paid his salary and you can't deny that one bit. They just chose to go with a better qb for that team at that time.We saw how good the kid is in our war with the packers.Doubt favre could have put up a game like he did against us either. Not with the same weapons instead of the ones he has with the vikes.

To hear the manlove for favre from Madden and his other top 10 fans as talking heads on tv rave over the guy just because they got to meet him and allow him to boast about himself on thier shows kinda makes my stomach flip.We have just as many talented guys besides him today to brag about.Lets see if brett meets the challenge today.Lets see if his skills can lead the very talented viking team with players such as Rice,Harvin(rookie of the year)Just won 2 NCAA Championships with Florida. Not a new talent favre developed either. So you can stop that jive now.

Adrian Peterson has gone down as he's played with favre to have the stats tell the truth.Yet they have another rb in Taylor that is awesome too and a TE that is as good as any in football.Yet even the CARDINALS shut down that tightend.Something we normally can't do.LMAO!!!:D

Longevity isn't everything.A lot of luck in that has gone a long way that someone has'nt knocked favre out in many a chances of many a game.So no concussion factor many a qb has had to face and ended a few pretty good qb's careers.Other injuries too. That luck has been involved in his endurance in this game too.I'd just like to see a smidge more humility for what GOD has given him.He thinks he did it all on his own.:)

I've never heard Favre talk about his records. The perception may be that he's not humble, but I'd say that's largely perception based on the undue media attention.

I can't stand BF and always thought of him as terribly overrated. I can't stand him even more now because IMO his playing isn't about the joy of playing the game, love of the game or even for his fans. I think the entire reason why he is playing is to stick it to the Packers. It seemed to be nothing more than vindication. He can't go an entire interview without mentioning GB. It's effing pathetic and a slap in the face to NFL and especially Vikings fans. I think the only reason why he wants to win is so he can rub it in GB's face. I hope the Saints crush Minnesota 70-0 today and BF has one of his vintage 6 INT playoff performances.

Its funny how some seem to miss this same thing you and I've seen.I don't think it has anything to do with perception though. Its straight all out in front, what the guys thinking and doing from the start to finish. He has never held anything back.Every interview which is now in the 100's has had the same thing.

Some choose to be blind to the facts about what his motivation has been.He has'nt kept it a major secret. They had tickets for the whole family to both Packer games before he even signed with the vikes. That says it all to me.I'm not fooled once I knew that, and a few other things.:)

Facts can be backed up by evidence. Where is that in this case? Without the evidence, it's speculation and opinion.

Just because someone doesn't agree with your opinion doesn't make them blind.

He can't even make a stupid Sears commercial without taking a thinly veiled swipe at Green Bay. BF is like one of those annoying guys that gets a divorce and re-marries a super hot chick and can't shut up about his ex.

Do you really think Favre wrote that commercial?

If anything, that commercial pokes fun at Favre himself.

Didn't Favre make reference to Dallas continuing to kick field goals in a playoff win over the Pack after the Vikings ran up the score last week? Reminds me of Michael Jordan's HoF acceptance speech, where it became clear that revenge (against perceived slights, no less) was a major motivator and has not disappeared since retirement.
