I think Bethel is in his best position right now (well, recovering with the foot) - Pro Bowl special teams and, eventually, maybe 5 defensive snaps a game to stay acclimated in case he has to cover an injury.

In a matter of a week Steve Keim may have sure'd up our corner back spot.

Patrick Peterson
Michael Cooper
Brnadon Williams
Justin Bethel
Tharold Simon

* None of our cornerbacks are under 6 feet tall, btw.

and your couple that with,

Tyrann Mathieu
Tony Jefferson
Tyron Branch
DJ Swearinger
Marquis Christian

As long as Cooper holds up, that is a good looking secondary.

He will give up some plays but the guy does one thing I really like. Looks for the ball. Good job by Keim.

He certainly is a temporary upgrade from Williams, but in the long run Williams has the potential to be better. Cooper still will have issues with fast receivers. That said his experience showed Sunday.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. I caught his interview on Cardinals OT and the first thing I noticed was that he's a pretty big dude for a CB - especially sitting next to Glenn Parker who played OL. The Cardinals have him listed at 6'2" 192 lb, but he looks heavier than that. Definitely like what I saw though. Either the role they had him in was perfect for him or the matchups were good for him. Maybe there's a PP/HB effect?

I don't think Brandon Williams is out of the picture.

Cooper seems to give us a #2 corner we can trust, and the possibility of being more than just trustworthy.

But if Brandon is thought to have a ridiculous upside and then lives up to that potential and proves it on the field, I could see him earning that starting role and going on to become a superstar.

Odds of that happening: 10 - 15%...but it could.

At the very least, Cooper (& maybe Simon) can buy us time for Brandon to develop. At best, in Cooper, we've got our starter & it will be up to Brandon to prove otherwise. Whatever the case, it should give us some quality depth.

Cooper should be number 1 for now. He played a great game yesterday and watching him in there made it fun again.

For next week, yes. One game doesnt make a player, though. He was deep on KC's depth chart for a reason, so I don't want to get too excited just yet.

Still don't get what everyone sees in BW. A few of you have mentioned potential. Yes, he may have potential with his supreme athleticism, but that only takes you so far. It will take him some time to get the proper technique down, and then there are the mental aspects to the game. I'm pretty high on BW's raw talent, but I think it is a little far-fetched that some on this board think he will eventually be our CBoF (is that a term?). I remember throwing bricks at my TV during PP's first season given the PI calls he drew every game. It took him at least two seasons to really perfect his craft (technique, routes, knowing when to press, etc.). Two years, for a guy who played CB all of his life. Unless a miracle happens, BW will not be starting any more games this year.

All we need is a serviceable #2 CB opposite PP. You can see the entire D much more relaxed (and aggressive with their scheme) once Coop settled into his role yesterday.

Williams might have the potential, but he won't see the field again constantly unless there's injury or it's garbage time.
