If we're looking at on-the-field accomplishments? Since it postseason time his October numbers have me thinking...

Playoffs: 133 IP, 11-2, 2.23 ERA, 125 K's, 25 BB's, 0.968 WHIP, 4.80 K/BB

World Series: 48 IP, 4-1, 2.06 ERA, 43 K's, 10 BB's, 0.896 WHIP

3x WS champ
1x WS MVP
NLCS MVP (93')

Unfortunately yes.

I think the guy is pondscum, but he was nails leading THREE different teams to the WS while winning three of them.

Best postseason pitcher in my lifetime. Gets in for that alone, IMO.

I would have to go into this camp. Question, will his other activities cause writers to delay voting for him?

No way. 3 second places and one 4th place don't impress me at all. Brandon Webb is more deserving, and i wouldn't put him in.

It shouldn't. Dude was nails most of his career and absolutely phenomenal in crunch time.

He started THREE games in the WS for us and gave up what... 4 total runs? That's ridiculous.

No doubt about it Hall of Famer. He had 10 or 11 seasons of dominant pitching. I could care less about his opinions, he deserves recognition for his performance on the field.

I agree. Personally, Curt Schilling is a butthole. But, as a pitcher, he was clutch. His philosophy of never fearing giving up a solo HR, but tightening up with runners on base worked well for him.

He had the reputation of being a butthole when he attended Shadow Mountain HS in my neighborhood on Shea Blvd. But I guess it's that arrogance that led him to being an outstanding pitcher.

I think he is a no doubt Hall of Famer. One of the best postseason pitchers ever.

I also think he is a complete and total douchebag. However, that is a separate issue. The said Ty Cobb was the biggest A-hole in the world, but the man could play ball.

I'm surprised he wasn't embraced more in the Valley growing up here and leading the Diamondbacks to a championship. It probably had to do more with RJ being the Ace.

Looking at Wiki it doesn't show how long he spent in Phoenix. Just that he was from Alaska and spent his HS and JC years in AZ. Gambo mentioned they did a radio show together but I don't remember that.
