For a number of weeks the Green Bay Packers have given Brett Favre a deadline to make a decision on his future and for a number of weeks the packers have extended and extended and extended the deadline because their HOF QB and face of the franchise has said he wasn't ready to make one. Favre has been ailing over the past several seasons and has been trying to create superhuman results while dealing with subpar OL performance, team injuries and the occasional teammate's contract dispute.

Now he has issued the ultimatum that if the team does not show any effort to create a better team, he's retiring, maybe. While Favre is firmly entrenched in my mind as a top 10 alltime NFL QB, he has decided this is time to hold it over the head of the team that he was the consummate team player for all those years. He has gone so far to say " what are they going to do, release me?" Well, yes Brett, they may well do that.

Brett probably has a few good years left in him but not if it is in GB where there are more holes than AZ. Whether he likes it or not, it's time to hang up the spikes and call it a career. GB may never have deserved a player as tough and committed as Favre during his heyday, but they certainly deserve better now.

Hell yes he's being selfish. He did the same thing to them last year. If i was the GM then i'd just give him a final deadline and so be it. The fans may be pissed but they need to get going on their roster. It would be nice to know if they have an extra 10 mill or so to spend on players. Plus, Favre said if he plays next year will be his last. You're going to hold the team up for a 1 year player? Favre was a great QB but the GM is showing him way too much respect. They are drafting in the top 5 with him as their QB anyway.

Absolutely. Excuse the Packers for trying to, you know, move along with their offseason and draft plans. How selfish of them.

Well What in the H*** has Green Bay done this offseaon to make him want to come back? Heck what have they done in the past 2 seasons to improve their team? Green Bay is pathetic, they use to be one of my favorite teams, just because Favre is fun to watch, and shows a true joy in playing football not like alot of these "business men" who just show up for a paycheck.

Green Bay has fallen, and fallen far, IMO Favre should hang it up and go hunting and cut grass on his John Deer Tractor Mower because the franchise as a whole isn't trying to win a championship, they're trying to get paid before they are found out for being hacks and get fired.

Green Bay is all but FORCING Favre to retire, it wreaks of what Chicago did to Michael Jordan. We want to move on, and build a winner here without you... WTF is that how to treat a future HoFer who's taken you to a few Superbowls and won it!?

BOOOO!!!

BTW, I don't blame Favre one bit for waiting on his decision. He's EARNED it. IMO He's waiting for the Packers to sign some freakin lineman and improve their team, but they're not, hopeing this ploy will motivate Favre to retire.

LAME!

Don't you think the QB position is important to free agents coming in? I know I'd want to know who was going to be running the team. By Favre delaying his decision it leaves a ton of uncertainty at the most important position. He's handcuffing that organization, and he hasn't earned that.

The Packers will be there long after Favre retires, and the sooner he does, the better off that team will be.

Great, so Green Bay sucks. Not much denying that. Why in the hell does that give this prick any business at all lording it over the team? He knows well that he's holding the entire organization hostage; they're paralyzed and can't really do much without his decision. They can't cut him, as he damn well deserves to be cut, because they'd be crucified by their own fan base and the GM and coach would quickly be run out of town. They can't spend all of their cap money because they might need to get a new QB. Or might not. Or might. Well, we'll get back to business once Bretty-poo makes up his mind.

The organization is in a shambles, but Farve disgusts me. He's acting like a spoiled child, and he KNOWS he's killing the franchise.

You're completely and utterly wrong and biased. NOBODY EVER EARNS THE RIGHT TO HOLD A TEAM HOSTAGE THE WAY FARVA DOES!!! Holdouts are a far different ball game; some are justified and some aren't. Hell, if anybody has a right to hold Green Bay hostage, it's Javon Walker; they've treated him like dog crap the last 2 seasons. Farve has earned the right to either walk away or stay on his terms. The team has been more than courteous to him. They've bent over backwards to accomodate him, delaying decisions on his bonus to give the little baby more time.

So the team hasn't made any moves and looks like it's moving in an inept direction. SO FREAKING WHAT!?!?!? Retire then! Or do you think they'll get better with the FA they've added? Play, then! Only make up your mind so the team can move on. Damn, it's sad.

What is Lord Farve going to do without football?

I'm still trying to get over him more or less saying Aaron Rogers coming in doesn't mean he has to tutor him, that was awesome.

If Green Bay is letting Farve hold them hostage, then I guess Farve has earned that right. It only happens if GB lets it happen. If they don't want to be held hostage they can tell him to hit the bricks and move on. If the organization doesn't have the courage or confidence to take control of their situation then they are getting what they deserve.

Green Bay has a king and his name is Favre. And, like all kings, he does what he wants when he wants...and, yes, he's being selfish.

I agree. It will be ugly. I don't have strong feelings either way, but to me it seems like GB has a choice to either sort of crawl along in hopes Farve will come back, so they can have one more year with the guy, probably have a losing record, and then let Farve retire with all the niceties or they can bite the bullett, say "damn the torpedoes" and move towards the future. To do so, they will bring down a rain of hellfire from their spoiled and unreasonable fans. I think their situation sucks.

The interesting thing to me is, when Farve emerged there, it was a situation of mostly losing and chaos. They righted the ship, built things up for a few years, won a superbowl, then slowly deteriorated, to the point where they are back into the same sort of chaos and losing. Its all come fulll circle.

green bay will have the fan base no matter what, i am pretty sure that it is almost impossible to get football tickets to a packers game. the organization should take control of the situation and bite the bullett. if favre wants to come back so be it, if not too bad, they need to start worrying about the next 4 years and not just next season.

Remember, everybody with a share of the team (many fans) get a voting say in the overall operations of the team. The fans are far more powerful in GB than anywhere else.

Sources: Favre to play '06 season for Packers
ESPN.com news services

Brett Favre informed the Packers on Tuesday that he will definitely play the 2006 season in Green Bay, league and team sources have told ESPN's Chris Mortensen.

Favre shared his decision with general manager Ted Thompson and head coach Mike McCarthy in a telephone conversation on Tuesday morning, the sources said.

Neither Favre, Thompson nor McCarthy was available for immediate comment. Bus Cook, Favre's agent, did not return phone inquiries.

Favre has said previously that if he decides to play in 2006 it will be his final season in the NFL.

Yeah. Classless, which is strange cause I, up until a year or two ago, thought Farve was class A.

I, too, think he is/was being selfish. It's one thing to not know whether or not you want to move on or retire, but it's another thing when you hold a whole franchise in libo while you ponder your decision.
