If the defense is too complicated for him, isn’t that as much an indictment of Simmons as it is of Vance?

To me that means either Simmons is not intelligent enough to understand and play within the system or it means he doesn’t put in the proper amount of study time to understand and play within the system.

One thing I firmly believe is that it is less Vance and more an issue of the LB coach whose job is to develop those in the position group. Given the current Zaven issue, I think that is the weak link.
Well it's obviously something lol. I remember when he was drafted, during the zoom meetings, all the talk about what a sponge he is on picking up plays so easily. Now he's in year 2 & people think he's a bust? I still don't think that. If the LB's coach (Bill Davis) is the problem like you said, who's his boss? Vance Joseph & it's his job to get in their ass & fix the problem or find another position coach. At the end of the day VJ is responsible for the defense.

I don’t know how much hiring/firing power a DC has so it may be out of his hands to do anything other than recommend. And we know how the good old boys network operates. Did Keim hire the entire defensive staff for Kliff or just the DC?

Also, for all we know Vance is asking wtf is going on with these LBs.

I think we will have a better understanding of what the issue may be during the off-season of there are any changes made to the coaching staff.

Edit: I don’t think he is a bust just yet but he is getting into that territory based on draft position

Lots of changes will be made in the off season. Simmons will be fine, I'm not buying the bust thing. I still believe he will be a pro bowler.

Maybe Billy Davis doesn't understand the system. I mean if it takes seasoned professionals a couple of years, whose to say it wouldn't take the LB coach that long aswell?

It is tough to play your best when you are scared to make a mistake because you might get yanked. Just saying. The Cardinals have botched his developemnt just like many feared.
At this point isn't a coincidence our last two first rounder struggled to play at their best on Joseph's defense
As i wrote the day we drafted Simmons, Vance Joseph was the worst defensive coordinator for him

Agreed. He is not a pro bowler but closer to that than a bust. He needs to find a better role IMO but the dude is immensely talented.

For arguments sake - there wasn't a ton of talent after we picked Simmons.

Should we have picked Wirfs instead - as of today, yes. Time will tell. There were many banging the table for him.
CeeDee Lamb would have been nice as well.
Justin Jefferson - obviously. Gotta love the draft - 4 other teams took a WR before Jefferson.

Who else would you have preferred?

That is not an inspiring first round. I always say around draft time, even the best GMs hit around 50%. This supports that.

Could also say Lamb doesn’t get the attention Jefferson does. Jefferson flourishes with & without Thielen.

Honestly, Jefferson is a top 3 WR while I don’t think Lamb is even top 10.

I'm blanking who it was, maybe Wally(?) who was very high on Jefferson pre draft? I preferred Jeudy and I still think he's going to be a great player if Denver ever gets a QB. Teddy was efficient but he doesn't throw to the WR's that much he uses the TE and the RB's. When Jeudy got healthy he has been good but doesn't get the ball enough and he's had some drops but it's mainly their QB's suck. I googled him apparently people in Denver think the Broncos might trade Jeudy in a package to try and get a QB obviously that won't help us since we aren't trading Kyler but it is interesting 2nd year WR apparently might get moved they signed 2 other WR's to long term deals and some think it's so they can include Jeudy in a deal to get their QB either by trade or by draft pick.

Lamb is good but clearly so far Jefferson is the class of that draft at WR, kid is REALLY good.

At what point does Keim gets blame for these busts. I understand some people get a long rope is it right to keep Keim going after 9 years?

Horrible situational awareness. We stack the line and just needed him to prevent a pass to the TE and he was caught watching the play unfold rather than defending.

As per usual on in-game posting, some posts don't age well lol

To be fair, Simmons was pretty bad early in the game. Also to be fair, when Vance finally unleashed him and just let him attack, he made a play.

Simmons has been just fine. He makes plays, he makes mistakes.

I realize if he’s not an all-pro, he must be a bust to some people.

I thought he had an uneven game but made the HUGE play to help the win. Also, I thought Zaven did good as the game went on. He just needs some more snaps.

Encouraged by the 2 young studs today.

The play by Simmons at that moment in the game was absolutely game changing. Great effort.

You just have to give the kids the space to grow. Sometimes it hurts, sometimes....... They make a play.
