With our 3 top WR's out he is honestly the only safety net for McCown and needs to stay healthy. He'll show his nastiness vs. the Rams.

I dont think anyone si knocking him. He catches everything that comes his way but he just isnt a physical player. He avoids hits and is taken down very easily when hit.

I can understand if he was 6'3 220lb but at 6'4 260lb he shouldnt let cb's do that to him.

Section 11, I was thinking the same thing about Jones and a some of the other Cardinal receivers after watching Edwards run over a couple of Raiders on a catch in the 4th quarter.

But then if you watch most TE's they usually go down as soon as they are hit by a defender. Normally the DB's hit them low almost like a block as most TE's tend to lean heavily forward while running after the catch.

Tony Gonzalez is arguably the best TE in the leauge. His career average is 12.1 yards per catch. Jones averages 10.6, or 87.6% of Gonzalez' average. If the Cards had a Priest Holmes and a dominating o-line, Jones would probably fare better. With the Cards Jones has averaged 8.1 and 9.1 the past two years. With a healthy Boldin, Fitzgerald and Johnson Jones should have softer coverage and catch the ball in space with room to run.

Makes no sense to me. The good receivers/rb's/TE's catch the pass and make something happen with it.

Holmes, Gonzalez, Shockey, Heap, Ownes, Boldin, Moss etc etc. They all make plays AFTER the catch.

But of course its prolly coz defenders dont hit them low like they do F.Jones right?

Wrong. My take was that most NFL TE's don't pick up additional yards after initial contact with a defender. We were talking Yards after Contact not after the catch as the latter would involve the ability to make people miss as well as the ability to break tackles.

The hitting low was an aside as to why I thought that occurred as it has been my observation that heavier guys tend to go down right away when hit low because of the way they run.

My response to you was in reference to your using as an example two of last year's Pro Bowl selections at TE as if they were just your average player at that position in the NFL.

Reminds me of another Cardinal player who wore #85...Rob Moore. I liked Rob but he always seemed to catch a pass and either fall down or get knocked down at initial contact.

I just hope Jones catches the ball for first downs and touchdowns...he doesn't need to outrun anyone just get open and hold on to the ball.

And my take was two TE's and you can count a 3rd in Heap sure do! There is no reason Jones shouldnt be comapred to Pro Bowlers. Hell even Green called him out on that this year saying if he isnt playing at a pro bowl level we dont need him playing (paraphrasing)

I understand your arguement I just dont buy it. If you look at receiving yards last year of the NFL TE's you will see Jones is like number 6 but if you look at YPC he isnt even in the top 20. The reason, at least partly, is becuase he does go down too easily and doesnt break tackles. At 6'4 260 thats unacceptable!
